August 26, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi,When flying into La Paz (airfield elev. 13,300 ft, ICAO: SLLP) how do you prepare the pressurization system for landing? What I do is set the dump valve to manual operation, and open it slightly to raise cabin altitude.Manual landing altitude setting works intermittently at best for me. I would have thought this worked independently of anything else. What is the correct procedure?Best regards,Robin.
August 26, 200916 yr Although I couldn't quickly find it in the FCOM, I think she is limited to operating at airfields below 10,000 Dan Downs KCRP
August 26, 200916 yr Perhaps we can get one of the MD11 Techs here to advise. I flew into La Paz and got a Altitude warning all the way in...Perhaps Dan is on to something, but why would this not be in the FCOM? I think it to be very important.Peter Osborn Peter Osborn
August 26, 200916 yr If you check the Limitations chapter, page L.00.10, the envelope shows that the maximum altitude for takeoff and landing is 10,000ft.As with most things though, there is probably a provision for relief from the limitation. Sometimes a software mod is enough, other times it takes regulatory approval and revised checklists and procedures, and possibly an addition to the Op Specs. Nick
August 26, 200916 yr In addition to the pressurization problem, make sure that the high TAS doesn't cause you to exceed the tire speed limits.Paul
August 26, 200916 yr Hi,What I do is set the dump valve to manual operation, and open it slightly to raise cabin altitude.Best regards,Robin.Hi Robin, it is the outflow-valve, not the dump valve (there are fuel dump valves though). :( Just a wording thing, never mind! :( To your question: system limitation, max takeoff and landing altitude 10000ft. Observe the max tire speed 204kts, as Paul said. After all, it does not make a lot of sense to go there with an MD-11 in real life.RGDS CU, Tom Morello- FSX SP 2, WIN 7, 64Bit.
