Hello, im just wondering and asking for professional help, which aircraft would be easier fly.. I am a bit experienced in the sim and i am definetly buying the AoA traning guide.Anyway would you guys recomend the PMDG MD 11for FSX or thePMDG 747-400X?Cheers

Alexander Michael

I always suggest the MD-11 over the 747 for performance reasons. The MD-11 gives me more than acceptable FPS in the VC, while the 747 is nearly a slideshow. If you're looking for a good plane to get your feet wet with, nab the J41. It offers complexity and good performance all in an affordable package.

I'd still go with the MD-11 for performance reasons.

Depends on what you are into. The MD-11 is more flexible, but the 747 has a greater range.I'd chose the MD-11 because it is different. The 747 (procedure wise) is basically like flying any other large Boeing.

Both planes are good products to fly with, and need a lot of reading of manuals and tutorials to fly before you get the hang of it, if you go for easy it is best to stick with the standard planes that comes with MSFS, if you want the best out of your hobby get the 747 or MD-11 both are great planes. It's not only the flying but finding out how is also interesting. So it's up to you.gr Ruud

ok, so if i were practsing around with jets, i would pick the md11 first because its easier then the 747 for a challenge? You know what, which is easier to fly in terms of VFR IFR and ILS landings?

Alexander Michael

Id vote for the MD11.. then later on pick up the 747... J41 is looking promising!

which is easier to learn? I wil also buy an AoA traning tutorial with it. To narrow this down a bit, the MD-11 because of performance reasons and shes good looking and different. The 747 because it is a challenge, crisp instruments and it has four engines :) .

thats funny because ive heard that the MD-11 is harder because of its old systems, such as autopilot, etc... Im planning to have in the future, MD-11 747X and maybe the 737NGX when it comes out....

This is the myth that will not die, I swear... The MD-11 is NOT "older" than any other advanced airliner as far as the systems go. It is newer than any Boeing aside from the 777 and many of its systems features are more advanced and automated than virtually anything else current or past. That said though, I'm gonna go against the tide here and recommend that you get the 747 if you're a beginner. It's less automated and you're going to learn more about the "whys" of flying a large aircraft like this with it vs. the MD-11, which relies pretty heavily on automation. Plus AoA doesn't actually have the MD-11 DVD out yet... they do have the 744 one however. If you don't have the system to run the 744X well, you could pick up a copy of FS9 pretty cheaply and get the FS9 version, which runs great on just about anything.
