September 6, 200916 yr Hi all,Go easy on me as it is possible I might be missing something here, but:I can not start the engines, I have read the AOM (not all of it but the sections relating to starts), read the tutorial, viewed the sticky video and tried to emulate it but to no avail.Right, GND power on, Batts on, avionics off, LP fuel pumps on, cond lever in taxi(default pos), power levers just forward of the reverse lights off, engine start switch to respective engine, start switch pressed(light on-sound file plays).EGT up to 688 cTRQ 1.1%FF 122RPM-initially 10-12% then climbs very slowly over the next 3 mins to max of 49.5% then shut down.So I've gotten past the engine fire stage now, I think it seems like they are not igniting but the EGT is up?Please help as I have run out of ideas.P.S. makes no difference if I firstly load Default flight or not, I also have plenty of fuel too.RegardsDan.
September 6, 200916 yr after engine start, are you going into reverse to remove stop locks? and then moving condition leaver to flight just before takeoff?Paul
September 6, 200916 yr Author It makes no difference with the power levers if I go into reverse or not as I dont actually get a startup, the sound file will play for about 3 mins but the RPM will never exceed 49% in external view the blade is turning and there are little puffs of smoke (not engine fire) but it seems like when you forget to put fuel levers on in a jet! Trying to start but will not.Dan. CNTRL+E :)Unfortunately CTRL + E will not work at all, I thought this was part of the product but if you guys can do it then I obviously have a deeper underlying issue.Dan.
September 6, 200916 yr Exactly the same symptoms here. Followed the guide/checklist exactly. Engines seem to sit at 20-30%rpm no matter what for a couple of mins then shutdown. SHowing plenty of fuel, fuel pressure ok, igniters normal postion. Like the starter is spooling the engines but they never fire up Exactly the same symptoms here. September 6, 200916 yr Is the fuel pump activated? It will do that if you forget the fuel pump. Just a suggestion as I had the same experience with that solution.Morten Nelson
September 6, 200916 yr Hey guys,Have you looked out the window to see if the stop locks have engaged? (pictures here). If they're not the starter simply won't have the oomph to get her turning over fast enough. If your locks are not engaged, you can do the following:1) Put your power levers into full reverse (F2)2) Push the L/R UNFEATHER SWITCH for each of the engines (on the centre console by the power levers). If you look outside, you'll see the props starting to move to full fine pitch.3) Once the props have reached full fine, move the power levers back into the start position4) Find whoever shut the engines down after their last run and "educate" them with a training stick. With the start locks engaged the props will be in full fine, and therefore significantly easier for the engine to turn. As a result, your engine RPM will climb properly during start and stabilise at 72 odd percent. This was pretty much the first problem I ran into with the aircraft. As soon as I loaded her up I shut everything down in order to practice cold & dark procedures. Of course this meant I hadn't put the power levers into reverse during shutdown, leaving the props feathered!Hope this helps,
September 6, 200916 yr Author James,Thank you very much, I can now shut down and start my engines, I obviously had missed the bit where I was supposed to go to full reverse and unfeather my props.I feel like an idiot, but a happy one!Dan.

September 6, 200916 yr think there are lots of idiot around lol including me about the start locks took me forever to work out wat i was doing wrong heheh burnt a few engines on the way I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
September 6, 200916 yr ok so where the hell are the start locks? Like for the life of me I can't start these thing, burn up all the time, then I have to restart FSX cuz my EGT is a like 50 billion. J T COLLINS

J T COLLINSJames does a great job at describing how to get the engines on the locks earlier in this thread.http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...t&p=1631589If you end up having a high EGT and are waiting for it to cool down (After you've reset the engine failure using the FSX failures menu), you can cool the engines down faster by doing the following. Switch the manual start knob to energise, the start master knob that engine you want to cool down, then press the start button. The prop will start cranking, but it won't ignite and you'll see EGT come down pretty quickly.
September 6, 200916 yr Commercial Member Didn't I read that there was a 15 second limit on the starter for cranking?Best regards,Robin.

I made lunch in the time it took to come back down. Thanks!Regarding the start locks: in my video guide I did not include the procedure to set start locks, as during the shutdown procedure I engaged them by fully reversing the throttles. In hindsight, I should have included the procedure for engaging the start locks from a cold and dark deck.-Andrew Noble

Took a fair bit of research to sort this since the discussion about this in the tutorial is after the engine start section and the tutorial load did not have these engaged properly.Once i had this issue correctly sorted I carried on through the tutorial and then came across the discussion about the start locks!
