J41 - Spoilers don't retract

Featured Replies

After landing with the spoilers armed, I engage reverse thrust... slow down to a reasonable speed (around 70 knots) and return the power levers to idle. To my knowledge, once you advance the throttles in a commercial jet, like the B747, the spoilers retract themselves automatically. I tried that here and the spoiler light was still illuminated (green) I also checked out the spot view and same deal, the spoilers were still up, even after advancing the throttles back up a bit. Returning the control levers to TAXI didn't help either, although, I know you have to do it anyway! (I follow my checklists thoroughly :( )I know the J41 can't extend the speed brakes while in flight, so there would be no control over them in the event that they don't retract on their own.I quickly remedied the situation by tapping "Shift + /" a couple of times while the spoilers jerked a few times and then retracted.Any ideas?

Interesting that you actually got them to go down.. when I had it happen I had to go to the Aircraft menu and reload the aircraft to get the spoilers down. I will try you trick if it happens to me again though and see if it works. They spoilers worked 4.0 on the tutorial flight from White Plains to Dulles.. It was when I made the flight from Dulles to Cecil that I had the jammed spoilers. I know that is a bit far, but it was a ferry flight with no pax.

Erik,Are you sure the REV lights were extinguished? The spoilers are supposed to stay extended until you return the throttles to idle.

Oh yes, indeed. I tried maneuvering the levers in every direction, tried feathering the props, etc, with respect to the aircraft of course.

I've been having the same problem, but otherwise the plane has been great!Mark Masselli

How fast are you guys landing? We just identified an issue where this can happen if you land way above the normal Vref. Are any of you seeing this while landing at the normal Vref from the speed cards?

Yes, I sometimes see it, even at the normal Vref. ANother thing I noticed is after I do a turnaround, when I move the throttles forward sometimes the spoilers deploy or quickly "flash up and then back down.

I was landing between 115-120kts. I don't remember exactly how fast I was going. I was using the 20,000LB weight card. At work now so can't look up to see what I was supposed to be doing. I was play around with it at home and see what happens, and get back with some results. Thank you for the insight though. At least now there is a probable cause.

You're right. I think I was doing a pretty steep nose down dive, just to test her out.Is this supposed to happen? Where if you land above normal VREF, the spoilers won't engage?I suppose that if you're going faster on landing rollout, the spoilers should be of pretty high priority and deploy automatically (when ARMED).

Erik,The issue in this thread is that the spoilers don't retract once they're extended. There's a separate thread for spoilers not extending.

Right, I know. I was simply answering the question asked by Tabs.

Just going on record as well, I have had this problem and could not find a way to get them retracted. I will try the shift+/ solution. I do believe it is related to over speed on landing. Hope someone either finds us a mechanic or a fix (other than I set up better for landin . . LOL) I am wondering if this is connected to the door locking shut when I fly this on DVA ACARS. That prob requires a reinstall of the J41 unfortunately.

I'm also experiencing this problem. My speeds are all right on the book and shift + / hasn't worked so far if getting them to retract. Minor annoyance to a superb aircraft, absolutely love this plane!

I have had this problem a few times, the first was a few months ago on a flight from San Juan to st Thomas. I tried everything to get them to retract, then thought "bugger it, I'm flying back to San Juan" so flew there with the spoilers deployed :). (I was hoping they would go down when I got in the air)

I had the spoilers deploy on landing at Coffs yesterday, and also would not retract. i actually just loaded J41 onto my pc 2 days ago and it was fine up until i downloaded the PMDG update?a bit anoying to an otherwise awesome craft, any fixes would be welcome however ill they the shift + /cheers
