One last suggestion please...

Like many others I cannot get the FMS to come on. The only situation where it would come on is when I load the JS41 From within a default situation. I have searched the forum for possible solutions and followed thoroughly the recommendations about making sure that the fonts are being copied from FSX's Fonts folder to Windows' fonts folder including the glassga.ttf one. Today I spent hours restarting Windows XP, FSX, JS41 from various scenarii (loading default flight, loading a flight with JS41 and the switching to the tutorial flight etc...). Boy! this is not what flight simulation should be! (unless you are more of a tweak fanatic than a flight simming enthusiast). To-morrow (it's 1 AM, time for the old man to hit the sack), I'll try any suggestion that you guys might give me and if that does not work, I'll delete the JS41 and go back to the MD-11 and Oleksiy Frolov's Dash8 Pro.Jean-Jacques Struyf aka Jayjay

Need some more information...1. When you say that it does come on when you use a default flight, what exactly do you mean by this? 2. Does everything work with it?3. How exactly are you loading the plane when the problem occurs?

1. Sorry Ryann, my bad english: I start FSX by opening a default flight, then I load the JS41. It loads with engines running. I then click the "ON" button of the FMS from the dashboard (not the pop-up). The FMS screen lights up correctly2. Everything has been working fine within the Tutorial untill I get to the FMS section: when I click the "ON" button of the FMS from the dashboard, nothing happens.3. I start FSX by opening a default flight and then I load the Tutorial flight as per the instructions in the Tutorial pdf.On a couple of instances, restarting FSX after a failure to turn on the FMS results in FSX crashing with an error in modname: pmdg_bae_js41000_3.dllJean-Jacques Struyf

Jean-Jacques,Just a hunch here, do you by any chance have FSX SP2 or the Acceleration Pack installed? If not, I recommend that you install FSX SP2 or Acceleration as the JS41 needs to have at least SP2 or higher installed in order to work properly. If you do have SP2 installed, perhaps uninstall and reinstall SP2 as I have just read about another JS41 customer having issues with the Ramp Manager not appearing until he found out that he did not have SP2 installed properly.Let me know your results,Cheers,JasonP.S. Couldn't help but notice you are from Belgium. My wife and I were in Belgium for 3 weeks this past July visiting her relatives in Temse, Steendorp.

Hello Jason,Yes I have Acceleration installed since it came out. Never got a problem so far. Right now I am uninstalling the JS41 and will re-install and if that does not solve it, I shall try your suggestion.Did you enjoy your stay in Belgium? This year we had a very nice summer season (compared to last year when it was cold and rainy). Since your wife's family is from Belgium/or lives in Belgium, I guess that it is not the first time you have been visiting our country. We are living in Braine-L'Alleud (south to Brussels), about 40 miles from Temse.Jean-Jacques Struyf aka Jayjay

This afternoon I uninstalled the JS41 and re-installed it, no improvement. Then I repaired the Acceleration installation and again, no improvement. When I click the "ON" button on the FMS from the dashboard (not the pop-up window) I can see the button moving (being pushed in), but the screen remains blank. As an additional info, my glassga.ttf file is 53284 bytes long and is dated 10/16/2007. It lies both in FSX fonts folder and Windows fonts folder. Don't know if this is important.Jean-Jacques Struyf aka Jayjay

Are you willing to try completely removing and reinstalling FSX itself? I really think there's something seriously corrupted going on with your install and it's probably going to take that to fix it...What you need to do is:Uninstall all addonsUninstall Acceleration (after doing this, reload Add/Remove Programs)Uninstall FSXDelete the FSX folder (to remove anything that's left over)Install FSXRun the SimInstall AccelerationRun the SimInstall the J41 - verify everything's workingReinstall other addons

Sorry to jump in guys, but in an attempt to help.I have had the same issue since install, plus I can only get the plane to load from the MD11 believe it or not - but no FMS.I've contacted support who are looking at it & know of at least one other forum member who has the same problem & I myself have spent 24 hours re-installing FSX to no avail. So it might be worth waiting before starting all over again.Hope this helps.Steve

I know this may sound stupid, but are all of your bus ties connected?

Hello Ryan,Well my FSX folder is 120GB wide! I must confess that I would be reluctant to start everything from scratch, just to check if the JS41' FMS would work on a fresh FSX install, especially when reading Steve's comment in his post above. The JS41 is a marvelous piece of work, but it is only a simulated plane. Heck I could live without it, and although I should write-off the 30 euros it did cost to me, it is not going to hurt me badly. Having said that, I see 3 course of action I could take, and I am wondering which one you feel might be the best one:1. My actual FSX folder is on a 500 GB d: drive with lots of space left. I could rename the FSX folder to something like FS_original and install FSX in a new FSX folder with the same name on the same drive.2. I could rename my d: drive to something like m: and connect an external drive with a firewire 800 connection as a new d: drive and install FSX there.3. I have another FSX install on a Vista notebook where I could install the JS41, but in orer to do that I would need permission from PMDG.What do you think?Jean-Jacques Struyf aka Jayjay

Go ahead and try #3. The moving the folder option won't work because FSX relies on stuff in the registry to run as well as the actual files. #1 and #2 won't work because of that...See what happens on the other machine though, I'm curious.

Jean-Jacques,Stick around, we are in the midst of fixing up issues that our customers are having with the J41, its only a matter of time when the update is released and we can see if the update will resolve your issues. We are committed to fixing the more serious bugs as well as other bugs that our customers have been reporting. Regarding Belgium, I absolutely love Belgium, we have been back twice so far but my wife has been back many, many more times than I have. This recent trip, we stayed longer and visited other towns such as Gent, Zebrugge, Brussels, Bornem as well as revisited Brugge, Antwerp. We rode bicycles along the canal in Temse, shopped at the many outdoor markets such as the ones in Bornem and Sint Niklaas, that was cool... we don't have outdoor markets like they do in europe here in Vancouver.I will always return to Belgium again and again... I agree, the weather was fabulous for Belgium at that time of the year as the locals say, the only time it rained was the day we left for Kusadasi, Turkey with my wife's father and his wife. It rained so hard that we had to sit on the taxiway for 20 minutes until it passed in order to allow us to take off. That was the only time we saw it rain :)Cheers,

Thanks Jason, I'll hang around. I saw that you guys are working on a patch. We'll see what it does for me. In the meantime I'll install the JS41 on that notebook which is running under Vista, as per Ryan's suggestion, and I'll report here a little later.Jean-JacquesEdit: Installed on the vista notebook and FMS is working fine.
