September 10, 200916 yr Edit: Installed on the vista notebook and FMS is working fine.Congrats, Jayjay. At least you know by now that the J41 is not the culprit. Which does not really help your 120GB install on the other PC though. My thoughts are with you. Had some time ago to reinstall FSX and it takes its time to get everything back as it was (almost) before...Phil Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
September 10, 200916 yr I have also been following up on this thread and am glad that you got it worked out on your other computer. Now at least you know where the problem is.Regards,

Had some time ago to reinstall FSX and it takes its time to get everything back as it was (almost) before...PhilThanks Phil and pilotextwo, I knew from the start that the JS41 was not the culprit, because from reading/searching the posts here I found that only a few folks experienced the same problem as I do. But I could not find any clue to finding why this would happen, besides the fonts thing, which did not work for me. But the question remains: what is it that the JS41 does not like in my system, is it within XP, is it within FSX? But I think I found a way to maybe get closer to a clue. But more on this later.Jean-Jacques Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI

Set your electrical panel correctly - make sure all busses are powered etc...You might try this...Hopes it helps.PS. were you a member of FSCB ? maybe still are ? ____________________________________________________ Dieter de Wit

Hello Dieter,Yes, I start with the default 172 and the batteries as well as the avionics are on.No, I am not a member of the FSCB, but I must have met a couple of their members at the Simware Shop here in Drogenbos. A few years ago, I remember seeing Michel Decourtit over there, he used to be with the BASC.Greetings,Jean-JacquesHello folks,I think I made one step further in my search for Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
September 10, 200916 yr Author Hello folks,I think I went one step further in my search for a solution.First a little background: when I first installed FSX on this computer I copied a backup of the "naked" FSX with Acceleration on an external backup drive, together with both the FSX folders containing, amongst other things, the Fsx.cfg file and the scenery.cfg file.I just renamed my FSX folder together with the ones containing the Fsx.cfg and Scenery.cfg to something like .BAK and subsequently replace them with my origninal "naked FSX with acceleration". I then installed the JS41, fired up FSX default flight, loaded the Tutorial flight, put bateries and GPU on as well as the avionics, went to the FMS window with the "A" key, clicked the "ON" key of the FMS and bingo! the FMS screen came up as it should. So, there is something in my FSX that the JS41 does not like or is missing. Now what? Having had problems a few months ago in FS9 with the Dreamflleet A36 RXP 430 not working because a conflict with a Simplate dll, I deleted all the files in my modules directory, but with no improvement, the FMS is still not working. So I'll continue searching. Any idea to help my search will be welcome.Jean-Jacques Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
September 10, 200916 yr Is it possible to ' clean' out the CFG file with things regarded (by you) as "exotic add-ons"? Perhaps somewhere in the [display] section? Eric [FSX on Windows7 64-bit]
September 10, 200916 yr I know you don't want to hear this, but I think you will be spending less time doing a reinstall than trying to track down what bits in FSX are causing the problems you see.I have bought a lot of FSX addons over the past couple of years, and I have not been able yet to have them all installed at the same time without something breaking somewhere. I just find it easier to clean everything out when things start getting shaky than trying to understand how all the installers work and which might conflict with each other. Just make sure that you have a list of all your license numbers handy :( Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD

September 10, 200916 yr Commercial Member If your initial FSX install on your main PC was done by copying a backed up install folder, then you're out of luck I'm afraid - FSX needs to have its installer run to place the correct information into the registry. The registry entries are created dynamically during the install and there's unfortunately no way to back those up as well, it needs the installer to create them right at the time you install. We've seen all kinds of bizarre issues over the years related to this kind of stuff. What you can try is doing a repair install using the Acceleration disc - this MAY fix it, but I'd sorta doubt it. There's a whole bunch of entries scattered all over the registry and many of them are system specific and created dynamically at startup. September 10, 200916 yr No it wont that is just basically setting a registry key that points out which folder FSX is in to other programs, it isn't registering various dll's in the OS or making sure the winsxs manifests etc are registered correctly.Edit: Ryan beat me to it. Cheers, Andy.

All work fine, except the JS41 FMS.Jean-Jacques Struyf Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
