It's a nice grass strip with sailplanes parked all around and winches at both ends of the runway. They're non-functioning, but Discus X lets you winch tow. Are you able to open and close the spoilers on the Discus X a bit at a time? At present, I'm only able to do full open and close. I haven't found a way to do otherwise. Any suggestions?
September 18, 200916 yr I did a scenery for Harris Hill Gliderport in Elmira, NY and uploaded it to Flightsim.com and Sim-Outhouse. Also Elmira/Corning Regional Airport.Jim
September 18, 200916 yr Hey there Ron, I am a member of the Tucson Soaring Club, we are based out of El-Tiro gliderport a bit North of Tucson Az. The link below will lead you to some amazing free photo Scenery for the Pima County Area. El-Tiro is included, I know I may be a bit bias since it is my home field and I took the pictures for the designer to use for the autogen, but it is quite amazing. What you see at El-Tro in FSX is what you see in real life, right down to the cracked windows of the clubhouse, the BBQ, and the tractor behind the 2nd hanger. Night lighting too. Fly the Discus out of there and head to Kitt Peak, Mt Lemmon, and maybe the Rincons if you have the altitude. I am using the Discus to work on my dreaded land-out simulations in the area, and I will have to say that it is aiding in the inevitable. http://www.kb-sim.com/downloads.htmlThis is a shout out to the Flight Sim community, speaking of soaring clubs. I highly recommend them to get your pilots license. I spent the cash on what it would take to upgrade my P4 to a Q6600 system a couple of years ago to become a member of the TSC and as of two weeks ago am now a pilot w/ glider rating. Get out there and fly in the real world if you can!
September 18, 200916 yr Hi!I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but Crystal River Airport, FL (KCGC) has a 4,560ft asphalt rny and a 3,000 foot grass rny. I travel to florida by car quite a bit, down HWY19, and I drive right past the airport, and there is always lots of soaring going on it seems. In the real world there is a FBO called Crystal Aero Group that does lots of sailing from that airport. IMHO, it is a beautiful airport and really fun to make a nice GA or Sailplane flight. BTW: I found it necessary to edit the grass strip to the proper length, redo the markings on the grass strip, (as there are no lines in real life), and add a special grass apron along the highway for glider parking. (all via ADE)Hope this Helps :( -E.R.PS iwestdal, I sent you a PM on your spoiler question. :( Ethan Rayhorn My Office: (Taken at FL410)

September 18, 200916 yr Lugano, Switzerland is glider heaven, both in FSX and in real life, although it is challenging. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

I haven't found a way to do otherwise. Any suggestions?HiI have an X-52 Saitek which I use to fly the Discus and I map the slider (on he throttle part of the stick) to the "spoiler" and it works perfectly. You could achive a similar effect by using a button/key with FSUIPC4 and set each key press to open or close by a set increment or decrement. However, the "axis method" is the way to go.RegardsPeterH
September 19, 200916 yr Thanks for the link...one of my favorite places ever! And, lwestdal, to use the Discus spoiler incrementally, map it to a slider or axis on your controller, if you can....works great.I can't shift control of the spoilers to the throttle lever, using the control assignment page in FSX. The throttle function seems locked in. As I remember, incremental spoiler function happened automatically in FS9, but FSX won't give me the option. Nor can I assign a couple of keys to open and close spoilers incrementally. I used to fly full-scale gliders and relied on a measured amount of spoiler in many situations, especially to touch down where I wanted to. I would appreciate any further suggestions you might have for resolving the issue. Another simmer told me he did exactly as you suggest on his Saitek throttle quadrant without a hitch; I haven't found the way with my Logitech X3D Pro.

I found my problem by going back to FS9 and discovering that I was trying to make "Control Axes" changes on the "Buttons/Keys" page. It just doesn't work. Now I have realistically functioning spoilers on the Discus X. I have to change the slider setting to "throttle" when I switch back to a power plane, but that's a small price to pay. Thanks again, gentlemen, for helping an aging aviator through his senior moment.Lincoln
September 19, 200916 yr While on the subject of Discus, anyone have a primer on realistic settings for the Winch and how best to takeoff using it? Found a little while Googling, but not a real Winch launch for dummies.scott s..

September 23, 200916 yr Hi This is a neat little program from Paavo Pihelgas...... gives the best of both worlds .http://www.fsdevelop...read.php?t=8915 Thanks to Harley for the throttle2spoiler tip. Scot: Are you asking for settings for WinchX? And, in response to the original question, Dillingham X from Aerosoft is excellent. It offers good slope soaring close to the runway, allowing you to stay longer on the ridge and still make it back to the runway safely.
