FS2004/Fs9 - Textures 'hanging'?

Featured Replies

Nothing to do with this Topic, but I just checked my Logins Notebook, and found I joined Avsim.com on the 3rd. August, 2003. Had 2/3 changes of Username along the way. Avsim.com my No.1 Website! For the last 3/4 weeks I've been 'suffering' with pauses/hang ups when loading Fs9, also when changing views from my JF B777 cockpit. This T7 is a PoskyJF PSS Merge. I'm using XP Home. I didn't have this problem before the Merge; but around that time I also had a fiddle with my Graphic Card 'innerds' - Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS.Could someone give me some idea as to where I should be investigating, please? Apart from the mirror :( Ken

Really not enough info there. Do these 'hangups' happen with all aircraft or just the merged one? Is it more of a stutter or a hang up?

Hi Red, it does happen to all aircraft including the default Cessna 172, though just a second or two. The larger T7 'hangs' about 6 - 10 seconds, strangely only the tail section, about 20 per cent of the fuz?It is definitely a hang up. I also tried increasing the Frame Rates from 25 to 35; kidding myself it was better :( Ken

When's the last time you defragged your FS and OS hard disks? Fragmentation, especially in systems with 1-2GB of RAM can cause this as the heads have to hop all over the platter to load texture files.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I'm trying to decide what "hanging" -- and also what "fidding" with your graphic card's "innerds" means. Perhaps an overclock?A real shot in the dark hear, but if you did overclock, what you're experiencing may be graphic anomolies caused by:A) Instability due to too much overclocking:( " " " " " " heat.

Hi Bob, I defrag my PC at least once a week, I have 'assumed' that my Fs9 Folder gets defragged with it? If that is not the case, would you explain how it is done?Off Topic, were you ever Stationed at Lakenheath UK?Ken

Hello Zach, I don't do Overclock, having been bitten 2 PC's ago! :( By 'hang' I mean slow to load, particularly the POSKY B777 aircraft textures.Ken

HelloThose Posky 777s come with thirty two bit textures. If your setup is getting a little long in the tooth(as is mine)then you will experience lagging as textures are drawn in.I always convert to DXT3 this speeds the process up.cheers Andy

Thank Andy, I've just D/L the DXT3 file, so I'll give it a go.Ken

Ken go to the display settings and look for an option "render to texture". If the box is ticked then uncheck it. I had exactly the same problem but with different a/craft from you and some add-on airport sceneries and this virtually cured it - certainly took it down from what seemed at times to be 30 secs or more to about 1 sec.Iain Smith

Hello Iain, good thinking, but no, just the same. I also tried reducing Trilinear to Bilinear, same deal :(I still think it's down to the Posky Textures, I have this DXT file but for my 'thick' head I can't see how it works. I've also d/l the latest Update for my Nvidia Card, I'll install that tomorrow, see if that makes a difference. Thanks for trying to help,Ken
