September 25, 200916 yr I was getting this issue with the corrupted graphics followed by black screen after Alt+Tab / Alt (http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=249782) on almost every flight - with my MD11 with my 747 with Captain Sim 767 etc...I decided to something drastic - HDD erase - fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit and hope for better performance. The performance improved at once however the black screen surprised me several times with J41 and again there was no chance to recover but to restart FSX.All times I got the problem: it was in busy environment (UT2 @ 60% commercial 40% general traffic); it was around big and complex add on airport it was during weather generated by Active Sky Advanced of course flying complex aircraft - J41 Obviously all of the above gives hard time to the computer. But if you check my specs - God this is a machine that should be able take the pounding. Now, lets make this clear - this is not a PMDG bug since I was getting this with another developer as well - Captain Sim 767-300. But maybe PMDG team can get involved in the research and tackling down the problem since all complex aircraft are involved.I would like to raise the discussion again and see how many simmers actually have the same problem. September 25, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi,It is an FS bug and first appeared in F2004 for me, after I switched from the GeForce 3 Ti500 to the GeForce 4 4800SE, and has occurred with every card/driver combo since. Now both FS2004 and FSX crash after some Alt+Tab'ing. Microsoft strikes again. X(I thought this was fixed in FSX but I first experienced it two days ago, and after some testing, FSX suffers this bug too, but it takes longer for it to strike. With FS2004 it is approximately 6 switches then boom. The only way I found to avoid it was to switch to Windowed mode and leave it there, but in FSX this totally kills performance (FS2004 runs the same either windowed/full-screen).FS seems OK until The Switch that just corrupts the display, then its game over. :(Unacceptable IMHO, but will now never be fixed unless someone else hacks FS and fixes it.Best regards,Robin.
September 25, 200916 yr Commercial Member I was getting this issue with the corrupted graphics followed by black screen after Alt+TabVery simple solution: Don't Alt-Tab....Use Alt Enter instead to switch out of full screen and click on your task bar to change applications. (saving me lots of money to NOT pimp FSX, like i did FS9).You actually may only use windowed mode to solve that. But even then, you may never be sure, textures won't flip or be invisible, plane will be opaque, aso...FS and FSX especially are some bug-holes, i hardly believe, i spent thousand euros in this sim yet. But flight simulation simply is the only way i may ever stear a plane.I life with the bigs, you have to, too.Or switch over to X-Plane...but there are other bugs, i imagine... September 25, 200916 yr I never use Alt+Tab, always Alt+Enter and i also suffer the black screen, transparent external or vc model, missing menu etc. Today, as a first i had it with the JS41. Luckily it happens mostly at the end of a flight, after parking on a add-on airport with lots of AI traffic. To me it looks like it has something to do with the paging file. A few days ago it happened in flight with the MD11. I went away from the computer for a while (sim still running), and when i came back and switched from spot view (still a black screen) to VC view, everything was normal again. However, lateron it again corrupted.Gerrit Gerrit
September 26, 200916 yr Commercial Member Absolutely nothing we can do about this - it's an issue between FS, Windows, and the video driver. Has happened as far back as FS2002. Use Alt-Enter or just fly in windowed mode exclusively (which is what I do). Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

I've been using FS9 + PMDG 747 / MD11 + add on airports for a good year and no problem. The first time I faced this problem was this year with FSX and MD11 only. I did not wanted to get back to FS9 so I just thought that the problem will be solved. Then I started getting it with other complex aircraft too...And just to explain - the corruption in the graphics shows up not only (but mostly) after Alt+Tab. Occasionally I'm getting corruption after just using Alt menu in FSX to check a setting or a map etc. It happens when there is a change in the screen (e.g. moving either to Windows or to FSX menu). By the way Alt+Enter does the corruption as well. With Windows 7 I have the latest drivers of all my hardware. I haven't used nHancer 2.5. I Did not put REX2 graphics. You need 3-sticks in there I would run 3x2GB.The latest is not always the greatest. 182.5 is the driver to run FSX.Follow these tuning instructions to the letter http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041I have no comment or experience with Windows7 I run XP-64 a very stable system. September 26, 200916 yr Author You need 3-sticks in there I would run 3x2GB.Acutually I was thinking of that... Well will buy next week and install. I'll report if this will prevent the corruption to occur. As for Windows 7 - I installed and run the latest 64 bit version which is supposed to be same as the release version for Oct 22. I would like to assure you that this is so far the fastest and most stable configuration I've had. Vista was giving me a lot of crap and the XP is just outdated in my opinion. The FSX performance improved as well (this being confirmed by other users as well)Regarding the drivers - guys I red the posts about this issue before - changing the driver version (I tried all starting 182.XXX) did not fix the problem on the Vista system... October 23, 200916 yr Great thread. I was having the same experience before but then i learned not to do the whole alt tab but go with alt enter instead. Regards,KenSimulation pret immobilier
October 29, 200916 yr Lower the default sound format in the control panel to the lowest setting. Yes your sound quality will take a little hit, but it completly solves the black screen problem.
