Anyone tried MegaScenery Louisiana?

Featured Replies

I have not purchased any MegaScenery but Louisiana sounds interesting. As they have no demos or screenshots, I would like to hear from someone that is using it. Anyone out there with MegaScenery - Louisiana? Thanks.

Don't know but Aerosoft have a photoscenery of New Orleans out as well that includes some work on the area airports. IIRC it is day only which has kept me from buying (but the price is not bad).scott s..

MegaSceneryX = goodMegaSceneryEarth = bad (ripoff)MegasceneryX used to be a good product with decent effort put into the development. Those days are gone now. Most of the megascenery earth is hacked together amature-ish washed out junk. there are a few good tiles but most is not worth the money. I've looked at the Louisiana tiles and they look as bad as a lot of the other MSE stuff. You could learn to use TileProxy FOR FREE and get photoscenery as good or better than ANY megascenery earth scenery. And you won't have to support a product that just doesn't care about providing quality or value. Please don't waste your money. I'm almost certain you will be dissapointed.-jk

There are several screenshots on the MegaSceneryEarth website. Just click Louisiana on the USA map and you'll see screenshots. You can also click on each area for further info. You can get the whole area for around $29 (13 areas) at $2.72 for each. I have not installed this area so can't provide any additional information. Looks like purchasing the whole area is the best deal.Best regards,Jim Young

I don't know about Louisiana, but I have used MegaSceneryEarth extensively for California and disagree with the statement that "MegaSceneryEarth=Bad". It is accurate, and like most photosceneries, gives a fairly clear view from an altitude above about 2-3,000 feet. It's far superior to the default FSX scenery. I haven't tried tileproxy, but I compared MegaSceneryEarth to the scenery in GoogleEarth's "flight simulator". In some areas MegaScenery was better, while GoogleEarth was superior in other areas. One thing that I like about MagaScenery is that it has allowed a big jump in framerates since I have turned autogen way down. In contrast, users of tileproxy sometimes report "blurries" due to problems with delays in scenery loading. Tileproxy is free, though, so worth a try.You can buy a small geographic grid in MegaSceneryEarth for less than $10.00 and see if you like it. Not much to lose.

Thanks for all the responses. One good thing that came out of the post was learning about TileProxy. I loaded it up today and got it running fairly easily. Real impressive at first. The problem with these sceneries is it only good looking straight down. But, I guess that is the way the cameras are looking. Maybe we will get a breakthru in the 3d views soon. The new New Orleans 3d pack only covers a very minimal few spots around New Orleans. It is really useful for choppers but not for fixed wing. Thanks everyone. Ray

When you go to the megascenery earth site, you can evaluate every tile before you buy it, the product is very hit or miss but I wouldn't say it's all bad.For example look at the Florida Miami Tile(Florida 20), there are 3 things that will tell you it's a bad tile1) vertical banding with color changes in the terrain in the west part of the tile2) purple inland water(the everglades are not blue but they are definitely NOT purple)3) clouds over the everglades in the center of the tileThis is a bad tile. Now look at the tiles for Long Island New York(ex. New York 2), homogeneous colors, no banding, blue water, no clouds, these are good tiles.I can say this definitivly because I own both regions, and NYC is great, Miami is just bleech! So if you are intersted in a, area take a look for yourself by clicking the "High Resolution Detailed Image" and evaluate it for yourself...EDIT: I just tool a look at them, I would pass, there is ALOT of banding and color change.OTOH Utah around Salt Lake City looks pretty good.

I can't find anyplace on their site where they even mention Louisiana much less review any tiles. Thanks for the input.

Not to get off topic but if you use Tileproxy you get the choice of Yahoo Maps and Bing/Windows Live Maps, which both have great coverage up to 30cm, and is not washed out like MegaSceneryEarth (judging by screenshots) and its absolutely FREE. Try it out and I promise you will like it. The good thing is you can have Tileproxy Downloaded in less than 10 mins, and you can have it setup in less than an hr!http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=121Remember to read the 1st page and use JohnCi's level_mapping on the 3rd page to get smooth terrain up to airliner speeds (adjust the last value if you want 60cm or 30cm tiles though, his last value is configured for 1.1m tiles)...Service 1 (Bing Maps) in tileproxy has the best color and great coverage, while Service 3 (Yahoo Maps) has the best download speed and mostly good coverage. Service 1 is sometimes slow because it has so called "Bird Eye Views" "3D maps" etc and is used by many website and people so sometimes download speeds will not be so good, but I have gotten it to work fine @ up to 180kts. Service 3 can get you really good speeds, and I'm talking airliner speeds. Most people that I've seen complaining about Tileproxy have had excellent results after visiting the thread and getting help from many people!Tileproxy Screenshots:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?act=Sea...te=%2Btileproxy
