  1. There has been further development of FSX since Microsoft shut down the Aces Team. For example, Steve Parson's program, "Steve's FSX DX10 Fixer," has allowed the boxed version of FSX to be effectively run with DX10 preview. This has been a very significant improvement to FSX. The latest version of the upgrades, version 2.11, came out last November. In regard to flight dynamics, the flight models for FSX by addon developers such as A2A Simulations and RealAir are highly accurate and realistic.
  2. How about a really nice, polished aluminum, RealAir Luscomb Silvaire? With all of the RA vibrations, sounds and dynamics, of course.
  3. I bought RealAir's outstanding Legacy V2 using Swreg and didn't notice any particular problems. But I did notice that when I had a question, Rob responded immediately - outstanding customer support. Thanks Rob!
  4. I've been very impressed with the original RealAir Legacy, so I definitely intend to get the version 2. Based on the description of its new features, it sounds great. I'd also be interested in a version 2 of the great RealAir Citabria series. Heck, I might even be interested in an updated SF260.
  5. As mentioned, my system is operating on Windows 7 and it automatically defrags every 7 days. Windows also automatically creates system "restore" points. If I screw something up, I can reset/restore the system to what it was at a point in the past. This is pretty neat, being able to fix a screw-up by going back into the past before the mistake was made. I've done this a few times, and it worked. Regarding my 2 TB of photoscenery, I have it copied onto 2 separate 3 TB hard drives in order to have a backup.
  6. About 200 GB of FSX in my 1TB internal hard drive, mostly Orbx and photoscenery stuff; and about 2TB in my 3TB external hard drive, which is high def. photoscenery of the entire U.S. I only turn on what I need in the scenery library. This system is dedicated to FSX only, nothing else. It all works smoothly, crashes (of the computer type) being very rare.
  7. In FSX you can not only set the winds that you want, but you can also set the altitudes where these winds (and also clouds) occur. Make sure that your setting for winds extends all the way down to the ground. There does seem to be a tendency in FSX for the wind velocity to decrease slightly very near the ground, which also happens in the real world. But this is only a slight decrease.
  8. My water looks generally like where I often fly, Pacific Ocean off the U.S. west coast. It's dark blue with swells and some white caps. The problem is when harbors, lakes and streams have the ocean swells. But often with Orbx scenery or with Megascenery photoscenery they either have fixed this problem or its just a photo of the water which usually looks ok. Overall for me the water is a plus, not a negative.
  9. I'm just using default FSX water. The only REX I'm using is their REX Soft Clouds.
  10. I think I have FSX water set at 2x moderate. I remember trying other water settings in FSX and nothing horrible happened, moderate just seemed to be the best compromise between quality and frames. Regarding my Fixer water settings: Sky Reflections Max. 59% Sky Reflections Min. 38% Ambient Light 100% Misc. The only box checked under misc. is "Moon Phase Lighting"
  11. I'm using FSX DX10 with Steve's Fixer and the water seems great, better than with DX9. I'm not using REX, except for the soft clouds.
  12. I agree, constructive criticism is good, and is...well, constructive. And mean, destructive criticism is bad - it's called trolling...the non-fishing kind.
  13. If the basic flaw is inherent in FSX, and I assume this flaw also exists in FSX Steam and in P3D, then it appears that all of the flight sim developers (not just Carenado's developers) "have little knowledge or ability in all things aircraft." Maybe we should all just give up and go do something where perfection prevails, like playing golf.
  14. On the issue of realism, how realistic is it to be reading a novel, being very immersed in an exciting scene, meanwhile staring at a piece of paper and turning pages? That's why I never read books, totally unrealistic. One problem with TrackIR is that you are moving your head closer or further from the screen, turning your head side to side while staring at the screen...looks very, very odd - don't do this with other people in the room.
  15. How realistic is NOT turning your head and NOT moving your eyes, but having the view move (with hat switch)?
  16. If you visit KSEA in real life, it actually has flickering ground textures in reality! Sorry, just kidding...
  17. I thought it was a "loss leader", but what do I know...
  18. I have both the Orbx regional sceneries (N.Cal, Oregon, Washington) and Megascenery photosceneries. When I want perfect scenery accuracy, I use the Orbx airports with the Megascenery photoreal scenery. When I want the 3D dimensionality and great appearance of Orbx, then I use the Orbx regions with the Orbx airports. It all works together fine, although the border transitions between the Orbx airports and Megascenery photoscenery aren't perfect. I haven't tried the Orbx airports over FSX default scenery. I never use FSX default scenery. If I had to use the FSX default scenery...then I think I'd have to shoot myself.
  19. At aussiex.org they have 8 Aerobat repaints of the payware Carenado C152II. http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/257-carenado-c152ii-racwa-repaint-pack/
  20. The "toast" and "mother-in-law" flying scenarios are pretty scary. Another scary nightmare scenario would be during a vfr flight, getting stuck in IMC weather in dense clouds over a mountain, then suddenly breaking out of the clouds and the ground is where the sky is supposed to be.
  21. I've had real-world experience stalling GA aircraft, and I've taken the controls of a Grob glider, but I've never stalled a high-performance glider in real life. I just realized that I have absolutely no idea how such a glider would typically behave. If the ball - I mean the yarn - were kept centered using rudder and the stick held full back, would the glider mush with a high sink rate, oscillate with climbs and descents, or drop a wing and go into a spin or spiral dive?
  22. The RealAir Citabria series is still one of the best aircraft addons. But would it be possible to develop a V2, making a great plane even better? I hope so. It would mainly be things like the latest vibrations and sounds, maybe an upgraded pilot. The flight model is already outstanding.
  23. I'm befuddled regarding the statement that the MegasceneryEarth "Ultra Res" Los Angeles/San Diego scenery is "horrible" and is "nowhere near as good" as the old Megascenery southern California scenery. I have both and have switched back and forth between them during a flight and the Ultra Res. was clearer and had better colors. And my Ultra Res scenery meshes in fine with my state-wide Megascenery. I have made no changes to my LOD_RADIUS, it's left at the default setting. ???
