MD-11F Go-Around

Featured Replies

I am trying to learn more about the MD-11F (UPS - PW), specifically the Go-Around mode.

  • In the Systems PDF, page 100, it mentions that there is a click spot in the 2D Panel o n "the upper left MCP screw" I can not find it, looking on the FCP panel or elsewhere. I use 2D Primarily, and trying to use the Go-Around button on the throttles is problematic due to their rapid movement. I know I can assign a key stroke, but, does this click spot exist?
  • I have practice some Go-Arounds. The Auto Thrust Limits say in my practice case 1.68EPR. Once I push Go-Around, the mode activates, but I seem to get an N1 Overspeed warning even if EPR stays within range. Is this normal?

For what it is worth, I tried searching this forum using around, go-around, Go-Around and "go around", each time it brought up no results - odd. Thanks for any input.Joe Lorenc

Looks like you are reading the 747 manual. The screw is in 747 for the TOGA. In real life it is on the throttle I believe. In the MD11, I think it is on the throttles, in the middle. Some one correct me if I am wrong.Taylor OldhamEDIT: If there is a screw in the 2D panel, then I didn't know about it on the MD11.

No, it is right on Page 100 (AUTO.10.4) of the PMDG MD-11 SYSTEMS Manual, just like I said ! :( Figured since it said "MCP" it might be an error, but want to be sure . . .Would appreciate input on the rest as well - thanks for any replies.Joe Lorenc

Are you setting the flaps to 28 immediately after you stop descending and raising the gear once you get a positive rate of climb?Kevin W

I belive I'm right in saying that this was an error in the manual. I've asigned a key stroke (is that what it's called) for TOGA.

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

The MD11 does not have a hot spot (the screw) a la 737/747. I've assigned GA and ATS disco to keycommands.

It's best to assign the G/A button to a switch on your throttle or keyboard command. I've just had a look at page 100 in the System document does claim there is 2D clickspot on the upper left screw of the MCP so it must be an error.RegardsRob

The TO/GA and ATS buttons are both on the yoke. I've usually used the VC buttons, but the TO/GA in particular is a bit hard to reach.

TO/GA and disconnect buttons are on the thrust levers.. Autopilot disconnect and trim switches are on the yoke.Rob

Yes, gear for sure upon "positive rate" call, though I may be a just little slow there on flaps to 28.How often would N1 overspeed happen in real world, I wonder?Joe

Can i recommend you buy FS2CREW as you would have a virtual FO helping you while you do a go around , before i had FS2CREW i would open up the pedestal window and click GA on that (but i did loose some FPS with that window open ) or use a set TOGA key press . Rich

Brian York was part of the MD11 beta team and I'm sure his integration of the two products is pretty slick.
