October 11, 200916 yr The items that you listed are not "bugs" but rather things that either PMDG decided not to model, are not bugs, or are not existent on the Md-11 to begin with. As for your reverse issue: I don't understand what you are referring to. The visual is spot on. When you select reverse thrust, the reverse doors fully open, then the engine will spool to what you have set with the reverse levers. The reverse doors will close only after idle thrust has again been achieved. If you were referring to the actual reverse dynamics; well then that is what I call operator error...The trim warning issue is modeled correctly as well. The aural trim warning will only sound if the trim has changed so many degrees in so many seconds. It is there to alert the crew to a possible trim runaway condition. The MD-80 series (which I am positive that you are comparing it to) aural warning was too sensitive for many pilots so McDonald Douglas toned it down for the MD-11 and later the 717As far as the exterior "bugs" that you mentioned such as apu sound, taxi light brightness, and landing lights "popping out": Perhaps you should spend more time in the cockpit flying than trying to nitpick this wonderful addon. If you want real bugs and lack of support, jump over to Captainsim's forum sometime.and hopskip; all 737's have retractable landing lights. 737-200 through the -500 had them on the outer flap pylon, and the NG's have them under the fuselage in front of the main gear wheel wells.Matt LaMay Matt L.
October 11, 200916 yr Drawn outside the lines of Reason. Push the envelope watch it bend.Over thinking over analyzing separates the body from the mind, withering our intuition missing opportunities and we must, feed our will to feel this moment drawing way outside the lines.all of your "Bugs" Are due to lack of Imagination.Arm chair piloting without imagination is bland.Off-topic, but I gotta say it anyway: Tool FTW.
October 11, 200916 yr The plane hand flies like a dream... For me, one of those ideal addons for an hour of fun shooting touch and goes around an international airport, as I find it exceptionally smooth and stable in all phases of flight!AndrewThe md11 is known to be naturally instable during manual flight because the FSC has a system that automatically changes CG so that the elevators are less used during cruize flight. A normal pilot cannot handle that change of CG easily and the a/c will not be very stable. Moreover, to reduce the production costs, MD decided not to design a new wing for the MD11. That implies the MD11 to have the old DC10 wing. But, the md11 has increased MTOW, that means that MD had to improve the resistance of the wing. And, because there is a need to produce more lift, the md11 speeds are globaly more important that the DC10 ones.... So i don't think the md11 is smooth and stable.
October 12, 200916 yr Thank you Mhedbi for your input there... information I already have however, thanks to numerous documents on the Internet, and the PMDG manuals...If the issues with MD-11 stability were so critical, I do believe this aircraft would no longer be flying...There are many aircraft that are inherently unstable in flight, that is why they are bristling with technology... funny that a lot of those aircraft, particularly military single and twin seat fighter/bomber aircraft, are often hand flown a lot...I enjoy hand flying the MD-11 addon... I was merely relating to the OPs comments of the fluttering animation he was experiencing, and that there was no fluttering or twitchiness of pitch noticeable in the flight model... and in the near future, I will get a little more feeling for it, as I have a simulator session at Lufthansa Flight Training in Frankfurt, in the MD-11 full motion simulator there...But thank you for your input anyway...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 12, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi Andrew,I'm planning on taking my car over to the Nurburgring in a couple of months, do Lufthansa let people rent out there sims like BA in the UK, or do you have connections within the company? I wouldn't mind paying for some hours while I'm out there.RegardsRob Rob Prest
October 13, 200916 yr Rob, No doubt something like this with connections is always going to be possible. I am working on that at the moment but haven't had the chance to make the link so far... (an old family friend's husband is on DLH A340s training for the left seat currently...)It was birthday last week and my brother gave me the voucher as a present. He purchased the voucher via the website www.jochen-schweizer.de... you can choose English as language at the top right of the page... there are various experiences available. Just look for the location of Frankfurt, they are the DLH simulators in the Lufthansa Flight Training complex. The whole session is 1-2 hours' "theory" followed by an hour in the sim, with 2-3 people making up the group. The experience package I was given is the B744/A343/MD-11 package; I will be going for the MD-11Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 13, 200916 yr Commercial Member Andrew you just made my day! I've been searching for a MD11 sim for a while, the crazy thing is, it's cheaper for me to fly to Frankfurt book a hotel and use the MD11 sim then it is to drive 20 minutes to Heathrow and use there 747/777ThanksAgain Rob Prest

October 13, 200916 yr I am looking forward to it, and brushing up my experience and knowledge of the MD-11 to make it the more interesting...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
