JS4100 - Help in IFR - ILS setup

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,Need so quick help. Just purchased the JS41 three days ago.I completely understand how to set up an IFR flight and ILS landing with all my other aircraft and quality add-on's, such as the Citation Mustang, Pilatus-12 etc. With the JS41, I have the Nav1 freq set, course set, as I do in my other planes. I get the Nav1 id beep, but I don't ever see a glide slope indicator appear to capture, as wellas the ATC tells me that I am on localizer, if I hit the apr for approach, it never captures it.Please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance,Tom HigginbothamMontgomery, AL USA

I'm on a learning curve too but did you push the V/L (Localizer) button the dash? You should see "loc" on the HSI. Other than that .... frequency correct? Altitude correct? Will your heading take you on an intercept course with the localizer beam? And I'm also assuming the the FMS is showing and tracking your Flight Plan?

gritz,Yes, I had the V/L button pressed on dash...........I don't "know" IF I had the FMS set correctly or not. IS it necessary to have the FMS programmed for the flight?I "know" with the Citation Mustang you HAVE to have the flight set up correctly on their FMS, with the Pilatus-12, you do not.IF you could clue me in on the FMS I would appreciate it. THANKS for your quick response.Tom Higginbotham

Are you in VOR/LOC navigation mode? Press the V/L button above your standby instruments TWICE (once just lets you adjust stuff without changing).Otherwise, a screenshot of your EADI and EHSI (main instruments) might help us troubleshoot your issue.

Jimmatc,Well, I "think" I am in Vor/Loc nav. mode - I will fly a short IFR flight tomorrow evening and report back.................IF it does not capture gs etc., I will post a shot of the EADI & EHSI.Thanks so much,Tom Higginbotham

First you dial the ILS frequency in NAV1 and hit V/L once. Then you have some seconds to adjust the course pointer to the runway. Later you press the APR button on the Flight Director. The ARM light goes on. When the ILS comes in range, the light switches to CAP and the EADI automatically switches to HSI with localizer and glideslope.Michael

IF you could clue me in on the FMS I would appreciate it.
Other than possibly providing navigation to an IAF, there's little the FMS in this plane provides for approaches. In fact, you can turn off the FMS and fly this airplane.

Thanks gentlemen,It worked fine tonight...................1. Assumption - FMS does NOT have to be programmed to do an IFR/ILS Flight.2. ? - I could have sworn after installing the SP1 yesterday afternoon, AND when I clicked on the FMS, it look much newer and easier to read?????????????? This evenings flight it was the same as it had been..............WAS I dreaming?????????Thanks so very much for your interest and help.Have a blessed week.Tom

Tom-1. Assumption - FMS does NOT have to be programmed to do an IFR/ILS Flight. This is correct. The JS4100 can be flown from A to B without regard for the FMS if you desire.2. ? - I could have sworn after installing the SP1 yesterday afternoon, AND when I clicked on the FMS, it look much newer and easier to read?????????????? This evenings flight it was the same as it had been..............WAS I dreaming?????????I think you were dreaming. :-)

rsrandazzo,Thanks so very much for your clarification.Lastly, and maybe you'll know.... for a couple years I have used Cockpit Chatter to verbally change headings / course / altitudes, etc. instead of having to use the mouse all the time. It works will all my aircraft, default, as well as my very good payware aircraft. With the JS41, Nav, AP on/off works, but heading/altitude/course all "still" manual. Any idea on this?Tom Higginbotham
