October 21, 200916 yr How do you all avoid wx (CB's, etc.) on your FMC-equipped aircraft (I am flying the MD-11 right now, but 747, etc same deal)? And I am talking about CB's that pop up along your route during flight, where the unstable area is not predicted before flight, and can thus not plan around the area (which I will do if I know about it...but sometimes CB's will form around you anyway).Do you shut off autopilot, and alter your course to avoid the CB's, or do you actually re-work your flight plan in flight, or do you do something else? Once you are clear you can re-intercept your course with heading mode and then re-engage Nav to follow the FMC route. In some cases when large build ups are encountered, or large deviations are required we will just pick a new fix and insert it into the flightplan. In very rare cases you might very well have to adjust your entire flightplan enroute. Each situation is unique, depending on if the build ups are isolated, or have become a dense line you need to go around rather than pick your way through.Hope that helps a little! -Jason Peters, MSgt, USAF Ret.Charter Pilot (SIC). October 21, 200916 yr You have also the OFFSET option in the INIT/REF page of the FMC. (Boeings) signed: José Luis
October 21, 200916 yr The MD-11 also has the offset ability... as do Airbuses...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 21, 200916 yr Author You have also the OFFSET option in the INIT/REF page of the FMC. (Boeings)Thanks for all your replies, I'll have to try some of this out with the MD-11's FMC. I ran into some nasty CB's that popped up over Texas yesterday. Bucked me and my Fedex parcels around pretty good, not something I'd fly through in real life--and I shouldn't in the sim either. I had visions of Air France A330 in my head the whole time.Jose Luis-- are those the coordinates of your house? That is pretty neat. Near Pontevedra, Galicia. I bet you have a nice climate there. What is that big white rectangle about 100 meters to your south, inside that circle drive? (looking at GoogleEarth). Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

I'd like to have less rain than we have :( , but temperature is quite fine throughout the year. :( signed: José Luis
