1 - yOUR fsx install on E: drive is ok the path is ok2 - I get the problem you mention if i installl FSx but not the service packs 1 and 2.3- I assume the PC was built by a professional so we can eliminate the fact that PC was built by amature.4 - Do a defrag prefrerably using O&O defrag or ultimatedegrag or similar5 - If possible remove any tweak youv done to fsx files and just run FSX without any of your tweaks.6 - Also you can repair FSX install by doing any or all of this as you see fit.a - insert fsx CD and select option to repair your exisiting fsx installb - Delete your FSx.cfg file and let fsx generate a fresh config file c - Uninstall SP2 , then reinstall sp1 and sp2.7 - Update your graphic card driver to latest 8 - Update your directx to latest.9 - Cuase FSx is not installed on C drive, you need to be very carefull during install of FSX and addons to ensure you have all of them refrencing the right path to your fsx on E drive.10 Dont even bother with OC at the momemt, and turn your sliders to very moderate settings till you can figure out this problem, could be sliders too high.11- what GPU are you using and what addons have you installed when you started having this issue.YOU NEED TO BE SURE THIS IS PROBLEM WITH FSX INSTALL AND NOT YOUR PC BUILD. I assume your pc was built by a shop, in which case the problem is likely to be with your fsx install.

I don't understand the question on "applying x58 or x64." What "x58" are you referring to?x64 generally refers to a 64-bit OS. x58 is the chipset on your mobo. Making a choice between the two on software does not make sense to me.The FSX config files are normally on the boot drive...no problem with that and a main install on another drive, as long as the main install is not in a "\Program Files" directory. I like a shorter path for convenience sake, i.e. E:\FSXOn a new system build I always run a long (4+ hours) session of Memtest 86+ to verify the RAM is working OK, then a burn-in with OCCT and/or Prime95. OCCT also has a good stress test for the video card. Make sure it passes those tests before flogging yourself over FSX performance. The black flashes you describe could be either overheating or low voltage issues on the video card, something that would make itself apparent on the OCCT GPU test. How are your CPU/GPU temps under load? What kind of cooling are you using on the CPU? Is the GPU factory overclocked? There is no such thing as "plug-n-play" when it comes to FS. Just keep chugging and you'll work yourself through it. I couldn't be happier with my system, which is fairly similar to yours.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hi GuysThanks for your replysBob please see below the text from Nick N's piece at SimforumsMake sure you have the C++ library update installed.http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Re...?ReleaseId=2067You want to download and install: ENU (vcredist_x86.exe) NOTE: Or the one which is right for your OS language ENU= ENGLISHThe C++ Library update is needed for some 3rd party support and is installed with Acceleration. The link above is to the LATEST update which did not ship with AccelSorry I have missinformed you, it was x86.exe (not x58 as I previously stated) or the x64.exe option and I took the x86.exe option as thats what it said but I am probably wrong in hindsight. Stress is starting to take hold a little. Is it likely that this has caused a problem?Memtest 86+ and OCCT are testing programmes, I assume I should just do a search and install then run them. As for cooling there is a large fan directly over the cpu that came with it and the case has front top and side fans as well. Do I need anything else? How can I tell what my cpu and gpu temps are?Sorry for being such a Noob - I thought I knew a bit about this stuff.Obviously not.ThanksTim

I went through the tweaks in Nicks piece and cranked FSX up and to my surprise I got black flashes across the screen from time to time and it was very stuttery.
Tim,If you haven't, try this:
  1. Set your Poolsize to 100000000 (I assume that you've added the BUFFERPOOLS tweak to your fsx.cfg).
  2. Limit your fps in FSX to 30 fps.

Hi Ulf I will try the bufferspools tweak when I get home. One thing that I assumed is that when I installed accelleration that install also put in SP1 and 2 or do I need to manually go to the disc and select an option to instal it?CheersTim

Ok with acceleration you dont need Sp1/sp2 , those are on acceleration already. However you must go into the acceleration CD to locate and install the acceleration SDK.

The x86 Library update is for 3rd party support in FSX.. a version of it IS INSTALLED automatically with Acceleration but that link I posted is an UPDATE to that which corrects issues users have reported in the past related to CTD crashes and 3rd party aircraft/sceneryThe vcredist_x86.exe patch version is used for 32bit programs.. YOU DO NOT NEED the x64 version of that patch no matter what OS you run!! It wont have any effect because FSX and addons are 32bitThe patch you installed is CORRECT

Hi everyoneJust wanted to say thanks to you all for your help. I am doing a lot better now with most sliders all the way or close to all the way to the right and achieving my 30fps. I believe the main culprit was light bloom and once that has gone things are definately looking better. I do have bufferpools at 300000000 at the moment and things are quite fluid. I am only using default aircraft(barron) in my local airports and city's. My only gripe now is some flashing still occuring. Any idea's?I plan on trying to download some software to monitor my cpu and gpu temps - Bob i will get to and download OCCT tomorrow and see if temp is the issue. What temps are ok and what is a problem.CheersTim

It might be better to remove the bufferpool tweak, or reduce it something like 12 000 000 till youv made a few flights to see if you need it.Bufferpool of 300 000 000 or close cuases issues in my VC. Some say its way too high, my system is happy at much lower number like 12 000 000

Tim; You mentioned bloom...also having your water settings too high has the same sort of effect...anytime you make the GPU perform a whole separate pass, as is the case with bloom and/or the high water settings, you are guaranteed to bog down even the fastest GPU. I use 2x Low for my water with bloom off. You want to keep CPU/GPU temps down below 80 deg C. I personally don't like to see the CPU go much above 70 deg. If the GPU is getting hot, you might try using a program like Rivatuner to set your GPU fan to 100% manually when running 3D apps...my experience is that the default auto fan settings let the GPU get too hot before they ramp up the fan. It's a bit noisy, but I don't care when I have virtual CF6 turbofans roaring through the speakers... ;-) I use a nice freeware utility called Realtemp v3.0 to keep a display of my core and GPU temps in the system tray, and I also have it programmed to scram the system with an emergency shutdown if it sees anything spike to above 80 deg (as a safety measure in case the water pump were to fail). I didn't see an answer to my question on the GPU speed...sometimes factory overclocks put the GPU right on the ragged edge, and sometimes they even fail. Also, how much RAM is on the video card? Do you run full-screen or windowed?RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hi Guys Back after some sleep. Bob, as far as I know the GPU is a standard Leadtek 285 1GB and is certainly not OC'd by me although how would I know if they have done it in the factory? I am in full screen mode.I did download and start the OCCT CPU test and after about 5 mins the temps were getting up to about 76. I was not particularly pleased to keep going so abandoned the test. One thing I am not too sure of is how the guy who set this computer up has installed the hardware as I went looking for the Turbo V programme and couldnt find it. I got the disc out and tried a manual install however when I try to open the setup I am getting a message Motherboard Support CD does not support this operating system(WNT_61H_64_MCE)Being early Saturday here I am unlikely to get any serious answers until next week but am wondering if he has used some other disc to configure my computers motherboard. Is this likely or possible? Does anyone here have any idea what is likely going on?Following warpair's advice I have backed the bufferpools back to 120000000 and will see how I go and Mitch I have the framerate locked at 30fps as per Nicks advice although reading your posts on this forum was the inspiration to go a bit further with specing up my new computer.Thanking you all for your help through this.Hopefully there is some light at the end of this tunnel.CheersTim

Tim,What motherboard did you base your system on and what CPU cooler are you using (these are the most vital components next to your CPU)? You'll want to make any overclocking adjustments via the bios directly and not via a software utility.Regards,Bob

Hi BobI am using a ASUS P6T Deluxe V2. It says it is W7 compatable but when I run the setup disc I get the message described above.I had planned to OC the system but I am having enough issues with it as standard without worrying about the OC at the moment.I lwered the bufferpools setting but still getting strange flashes etc.Cheers Tim
