FS9 crashes a sec after starting

Featured Replies

Well... it's quiet the same to uninsatll FS9 and install them one by one again.
I suggest you go to where your flight plans are saved ( normally C:\Documents & Settings\Your name\Application Data (you need to have "show hidden files" enabled)\Microsoft\FS9) and from the list of flight plans identify which is your normal default one, the one it starts up with, and delete it. I'm still convinced that corruption of that file is causing your problem - so go on, prove me wrong! :( Iain Smith

Maybe a registry problem? get "ccleaner" (freeware) or run some other registry fixer. Also try Flight1, they have a "Repair FS9 Registry Path" program.

After staring FS9.exe, I can see the loadscreen loading, and one sec later FS exits.I didn't install anything new.Running Win XP pro. What can be the cause?

I'm bringing this topic back to life as this same problem started happening to me.When I click on FS9 icon the splash screen comes up for a few seconds and then it disappears with no error message.Errors in the event viewer are always three. Here's the description:The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 7.All three messages are the same except for the last number, which are 3, 6 and 7 (shown).I have already tried Microsoft's suggestions on this issue. I've removed FS9.cfg, restored the first scenery.cfg, tried removing all the user flight files, start by clicking on each one. I tried the fs registry repair utility. I'm quite out of ideas.I have another FS9 installation that works fine (an FS Golden Wings install) so it mustn't be a hardware problem... I don't know when the problem started because I have been flying FSGW only for the last few months. I'm presently copying the FS9 directory to another harddrive. Perhaps I'll try to install on top of my present directory to see if this works. Reinstalling everything is my last resource. And, according to the author of this post it may not even work...Does anyone have any clues? And does anyone know if there is a repair option for FS9 on the CD? I read about it on another forum but I can't find it in the CD.Best regards from an FS pilot stuck flying in 1938 (FSGW) :)

I copied the whole FS9 directory to another drive and tried to run from there. Seconds into the splash screen it crashed again but the moment it did a window popped up from the firewall saying the application had been blocked from connecting to the internet (which was disconnected at the moment). The two events were simultaneous, I wonder if they could be related. The moment FS "thinks" about internet connection it crashes?

Ironically I have the same damn issue. My situation.......Built (2) computers, both with Windows 7 Home Premium. Both systems have a 2 Terabyte "D" drive installed. Copied, did not install, the entire FS9 directory to both "D" drives on each computer. Then ran the FS9 registry tool which inserts into the registry the proper path etc. Fired up FS9 on the first system with no problems whatsoever. Tried it on the second, and I get the exact error described above by Alex.Click start, FS9 splash screen appears and then dissapears. Look in the tray and nothing. It just starts then vanishes. I have done a host of tricks to see if I could get it to work to include the following:1. Re-copied the root FS9 directory files again over to new system2. Deleted FS9.CFG and let it create a new one.3. Edited Scenery. CFG to assure proper scenery locations.4. Set Situation= to blank in FS9. CFG.5. Check all sound card and video card drivers6. Checked registry entries7. Checked Microsoft's fix suggestions and assured Document folders are in proper place which they were8. Etc etcGuys I've been using FS9 for many many years and have always used this process without ever a glitch. Now, like Alex, I'm freaking baffled! This has got to be a Windows 7 "bull-crud" security issue. My patience with Win7 is really starting to wear thin especially as it relates to networking.

I've read more threads about FS9 and windows 7 not being compatible lately. makes me glad I still have XP. Also Vista has it'sproblems too. If you're using a no disc file that could be your problem. they're not always compatible and they could contain a virus.

Hmmmm. But still. Why would it work on one Win7 system and not the other?

I just stay with what works for me and the amount of bad press 7 gets. My next door neighbor doesn't like Vista. :)

You could uninstall all the add-ons, get it back to the default setup.Add one add-on at a time and see when the problem arrives. Then delete that one .
Just to add that if add-ons are suspected as the cause of a problem, uninstalling just half of them (if you have a lot) is probably more efficient. If the problem goes away then you know which half of the add-on set is causing the problem and you won't need to re-install the half you have left installed.Note though that conflicts between add-ons won't be revealed by this method.
The moment FS "thinks" about internet connection it crashes?
Sometimes I have had this, but only when my internet connection is disabled.I then go to windows task manager, and manually end the fs9.exe and rundll (or some similar named process, I don't remember now.)Then I turn on my internet connection and it will work fine.

Hi guys, thanks for reading and for the replies... I must add that in my situation I am using windows XP. So whatever is happening here shouldn't be win7 specific... Second, I gave in and uninstalled everything. I'll be starting from scratch soon. I'm crossing my fingers because at least one person complained the problem did NOT go away with a reinstallation! This is some baffling issue. Fortunately my FSGW install is still working (but as some addons were common to both FS installs I'll problem have to redo FSGW too.

FS9 on XP3I´m jumping in here looking for help for a similar "loads default flight then crashes" problem - the difference being that I know that I caused the problem through my own carelessness. After years and years being careful installing and uninstalling stuff , yesterday I did a really dumb thing and installed four freeware aircraft at the same time including overwriting some same-name fx files and lots of gauges (but not overwriting). Two of the planes loaded ok and didnt appear to be doing anything wrong, but the other two crashed FS9 whilst loading so I removed the lot, trying to pick out all of the possible "rogue" files.but obviously I messed up big time because a few seconds after the default flight loads it crashes to black - no error message.I deleted the .cfg. and let it recreate. Event Viewer shows "Category None / Event 1000".I dont have "System Restore" on so cant use that.My guess is that there is a bad, duplicate or missing file left over from my stupidity.I have a program called Flight Sim Manager by Rana Hossain which I have used successfully before to find bad files, but I cant get the darn thing started now: it has a "sleep" .bat to get it working because of its out-of-date date, but I just cant get it to run.Does anybody know this program? Or any other to look for bad files? Many thanks.

Hello there,After 7 years of using FS9 without any problem ,my program is just disappearing from the screen just as alex described.Still using XP. I am at a loss. The only option I see is going back to my old computer which will run FS9 with pleasure.Cheers,Rao
