December 5, 200916 yr Intel i5-750 @ 2.66Ghz8400GS @ 512MB4x2GB DDR3 1333Mhz.Windows 7 Home Premium 64BitCan the 747X/MD11/J41 for FSX run on a system like this? Would I get over 20FPS?
December 5, 200916 yr Moderator That's to general of a question because your FPS will depend on location, weather, levels of AI, etc. I'm sure in some cases you will get more FPS and in some cases it will be much less. You most likely wont be able to fly into KLAX with a decent amount of AI, weather and high scenery complexity setting with your processor running at 2.66 ghz. With my system below you most likely could. Although I dont have the PMDG products your asking about, I can fly the LDS 767 into KLAX, KJFK, etc. with most sliders maxed, 60% airline traffic, and medium airport vehicle and usually maintain over 20 FPS.Your going to have to over clock your processor to at least 3.0, but you will do much better if you can get it to 3.75 ghz or higher. You may also want to get a little better video card like an 8800 GTS 512 minimum, but you would be better of with something more like an GTS 250 OC 1GB card or higher.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 5, 200916 yr Definitely get a better gpu card - I have a 285 1gb and it runs ok - but so many variables affect fps like cmpbellsjc states...... Chris Farrell
December 5, 200916 yr I get 30-35 fps with the 747X VC on my Q9550 GTX280 machine, so with an i5 and a GTX275 you would be set. Though I never fly with traffic enabled... Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!

Especially in view of the turbo mode available on the i5 and i7 families. Maybe a 2.66 ghz i5 in turbo mode is better than a 3 ghz core 2 for FS9 and FSX.As I mentioned above, I am not really sure so I'd be glad if someone more competent could jump in and take over (and I am very interested since I plan on upgrading my own system soon).Best regards,Bruno

December 6, 200916 yr That sorta doesnt answer my question. How would it run with the 8000 Gs?So poorly its probably not worth mentioning. :\My 8600m GT 512 mb DDR2 in my old laptop barely ran FSX. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!

December 6, 200916 yr When you say, poorly. How poorly >.>I ran FSX on my laptop at around 30 FPS at medium-high settings. In comparison I'm running FSX nearly maxed now at 60 FPS. With a PMDG plane it was lucky to hit 25.With an i5 you would do better, but the graphics card would be a HUGE bottleneck. With the price of the GTS 250's now, theres little excuse not to get one. You don't know me from a hill of beans Bruno and I am very offended by your response. FSX is very CPU driven and usually works best at higher clock speeds, be it a dual core or a quad core. Does faster RAM and a faster video card make a difference? Sure it does, but it will not be much help if your core clock speed is too low. If I recall right the original poster was asking a very simple and a very generalized question, of which you can get a variety of answers and results based off a users FSX settings.I'll put it this way Mr. Bruno, since I am apparently incompetent. I was talking to Michael Greenblatt of FS-GS who is about the most "competent" person there is in the flight sim world when it comes to setting up flight sims since 2001. He has two test sytems that he uses for his own simming as well as testing addons. One consists of an E8600 oc'ed to 4.0, 8 GB of DDR2 1066 RAM, and I think it was Vista 64, video card I can remember. His second system consists of an i920 oc'ed to 3.75, 12 GB DDR3 1600 RAM, video card I cant remember, and Windows 7. Believe it or not, when he tested FSX head to head on both systems with the same setting in FSX, his dual core E8600 actually ran FSX smoother and faster. That being said, if I was going to build something newer than what I have in my signature, I would go with a quad core with the highest clock speed I could afford and also a 64 bit OS to try to future proof myself a little bit.Just my .02 and I hope the info posted here helps the original poster.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

The one word I didnt want to hear "Bottleneck" Theres only like a $100 difference between the GTS 250 and GTX 275, should I save the money for the 275?
December 6, 200916 yr Moderator The GTS 250 OC 1GB is on sale at Fry's for $139.00http://www.frys.com/product/5866223?site=s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PGI just got one two days ago after running an 8800 GTS 512 since my original build. So far I am really happy with it, although the biggest difference I notice is that it cuts through clouds a lot better than my last card and the AA is a little better. Testing it in FSX weather setting Major Thunderstorms doesn't even phase it where my 8800 would struggle a little. So far its been a great card, especially for the money.Sean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

December 6, 200916 yr Moderator Im from Australia. And shipping is unavilable.Oh, sorry I didn't know that. Yeah, I had to go pick it up myself and bought the last one at the store I visited. Maybe Newegg has it? Who do you usually buy from?Sean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
