Cloud options for most realistic look

Featured Replies

What is the best way to set the cloud options so that the weather gets depicted as realistically as possible? And how do most people have these options set? For example, this morning there is not a cloud in the sky in my area, but ASA is depicting some cirrus cloud layers that just aren't there in real life. I'd like to get ASA to quit depicting clouds when there aren't any to depcit in real life. I'm thinking it has something to do with how I have my CAVOK generation, Cirrus generation and No Data generation options set so I'm wondering how everyone has theirs set and\or what are the best options to use for these three things. Or maybe the cirrus clouds are a result of some other option. Any tips would be great.Thanks....

Hi,Put 3 of the 4 bottom cloud sliders at zero and put 1 slider at 1% as this solves a potential bug. Thanks,

Thank you. Based on your answer, I guess it doesn't matter which 3 of the 4 I set to zero.

Nope!

Can you still get a thick blanket of overcast with the settings you suggest (3 out of 4 0% with 1 at 1%)?

Hi,Yes, as I do all the time.Thanks,

Is this in FSX of FS9?Thanks,Dirk.

Hi,Both!Thanks,

Is this for ASA only or can these realistic cloud settings as described above be used in ASX also?

Hi,Can be used in ASX also! Thanks,

I'm presuming this 'potential bug' is no longer an issue after ASE sp1?I noticed on your recent screen shots of your settings, these 4 options are set to '0' in both FS9 and FSX.Could you elaborate on why you set these options as you do?ThanksStu

Hi,That is correct! The ONLY reason I do that is because "I" want only cloud layers/clouds that are depicted in the AS data. For ME it has been that way, ever since we introduced those sliders with ASX. About the only clouds I sometimes add are Cirrus.Others may be more familiar with CAVOK and experience a few clouds with that data, so that is a good option for them. Some might like to see stratus clouds, but I think they are ugly so mine are off!!

Jim..., What is the potential bug you mention above that can be eliminated by setting three out of the bottom four sliders to zero and one at 1%? I'm on ASX.Also, do you suggest 'Checking' the, 'Create Virtual Stations' and 'Enhance Route Coverage', as well. I have those checked at the moment along with the 'Depict Hurricanes' box.Thanks.

Hi Temp,You are reading an older post from me where there was a situation with ASE and in the mean time has been fixed. With ASX and all other products now, you can set the sliders where you think they are most realistic for you.Yes, those 3 options should be used.

Hi JimWith all due respect, this bug is still not fixed in ASE, as you can see if you goto the Hifi forum you will see others having issues with the clouds and the sliders not working the way they are meant to be.This is something that really need to be sorted out.Marcus
