Flaps for landing

Featured Replies

Hey all,Just need some help here, when do you begin to lower the flaps to 15 and then when do you proceed to 28 and then 35?Thanks,Josh Katz

I've got in the habbit of doing like the 1st tutorial said. When nearing my initial approach fix about 10 miles out of turing on final I'll bring it to Flaps 15, by the time I'm turning my speed is just about 180, then during the turn I'll drop to 28 and lower the gear, then when I see 4 green on the gear lights, flaps 35. Most approaches if not all have me capturing the glide slope right after turning on final so this method has worked every time.

Checkout smartcockpit.com for some approach charts to give you an idea based on each app type. Look under Flight Patterns/

Assess when you need to be at which speeds, and use flaps accordingly... you obviously do not want to be 30nm out at Vref with 35

Usualy I just look at the waypoints and what speed I need to be on them according to the chart or the FMS. So when I near the first waypoint where I need to be at 180 kts I extend the slats/flaps. But thats just the '

For me i keep her clean until on final when the FMS speed indicates an 'open ball' on the speed tape

When passing the IAF flaps should be 15 most cases, just prior to the descent piont on the App flaps 28, gear down.....prior to 1000 AGL final flaps.Real LifeFreighthog

I like extending the flaps at 20kt above the FMS speed, and maintaining that speed. I do this primarily to see where I'm going. I figure that I deserve to look at the scenery I have installed. Once I get to F35, it's cool though.Paul

You do it that way too huh? You know what they say..."great minds think alike, but fools seldom differ". I wonder which category we fit into.Paul
