How is the Quality Wings 757?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have it yet and if so what are your thoughts on it? How does she fair against PMDG and Level-D in terms of flight dynamics and system modeling?

Systems: Not even close to PMDG/Level-D/CaptainSim (the QW offering was not really meant to compete with these other add-ons systems-wise).Visual Model: Modeling is quite good. All of the 757 versions are included. Tons of repaints available.Sounds: Excellent. Nuff Said.VC: Nice, albeit somewhast limited in functionality.2D Panel: *See VC note above.Verdict: I really like the aircraft and sounds and I love the fact that all of the aircraft models were included. However, and this is not meant as a stab at the developers at all, a little part of me feels like I just paid $45+ for an "Improved" POSKY freeware aircraft. For the price, unless you must have all of the 757 models, I would actually recommend the CaptainSim 757 over the Qualitywings offering rght now (if systems modelling is what you are after). Of course, this opinion could change down the road as the QW 757 evolves. For me, and this is just what I do, I use the CS757 with the QW sounds. This may change though depending on what QW has in store for their new aircraft. It is a great aircraft, but for the price, I am not sure it really offers "value". Of course, we all put different emphasis on what we "value" in an add-on. Hope this helps a little! :(

As Arklight said, it's all about what you are looking for. I have found it to be very much to my liking, most notably because it enables you to fire her up and go, but still the FMS is detailed and seems to work very well. For the rest, I think the exterior model is better than Captain Sim's (although there aren't as much animations), and the VC is also pretty good. I think it's more accurate than CS's, actually. As for the sounds: they are the best sounds I have heard for a FS aircraft ever. Not heard anything like it before.Bottom line is, if you want systems, don't buy the QW. If you can't be bothered too much by systems, do buy it. I don't agree with Arklight on the "upgraded POSKY model" though, simply because the visuals are way better, the sounds are way better, you get all possible models, and the systems are detailed enough in that they di give you a fully functional FMS. I like this plane better than CS's, that's for sure.

The only point I wish to condend is: "and the systems are detailed enough in that they di give you a fully functional FMS"That's a little bit of an exaggeration. It's a "basicially functional" FMS that allows basic flight management functions but it is far-far-away from a "fully functional FMS" which it obviously couldn't be because the full complexity of the flight management systems is not modeled. Compare it to the LDS or the CS FMS (which aren't really "fully" functional either, the QW FMS is below that functionality). But this is to say the QW never said that they were going to accurately model anything and is a "medium" (some could argue LITE) model. I'm still at a loss why people are still trying to compare it to PMDG and LDS...when the website does really spell out what it does and doesnt do. This is exactly how we set ourselves up for unnecessary disappointment.

Mike, Let me ask you something... if our FMS was so basic as you pointed out, why is Navigraph supporting us for future AIRACS? Don't get me wrong, this is no Level-D but I think your selling us a little short.SP1 is well underway and when it's all said and done we feel that we'll exceed people's expectations. Right now, we are dealing with the growing pains of a new group... mid to late January is our target for SP1.Merry Christmas EveryoneRegards,Emil

Is the good people at Avsim going to review this model? Just would be curious.
Eventually we'll give out some review copies.

Don't have one at the moment.

Emil:Sorry to disagree, but having AIRAC waypoints is BASIC functionality. If you don't have Waypoints you don't have a FMC. Having support for updated waypoints doesn't make your FMC more functional, it makes it navigationally more accurate according to real world monthly waypoint and procedure changes. Nothing more and nothing less. If you didn't have AIRAC updates it wouldn't change the way your FMC functions it would just not have the most up-to-date waypoint info. Let's not confuse the AIRAC updates with "functionality", they are apples and oranges.

Wow Sir: I never new QualityWings has so many issues. I must check them out on my next flight. But besides that, She is not bad at all. I also was disapointed at first(FPS Issues). Also wrote and blasted them Privately and not on a public forum, b/c These were my own opinions. There are hotfixes which I neglect to attend.QWs Support is A+, But still not knocking you. Its people like you, which states problems so they can be knownby any support team. But please remember designing any payware aircraft takes a lot of time and work. They know us and how highly political this hobby really is. So skipping small minor details is well expected at first.Support should be #1 with our money. Wouldn't want to purchased something this week, then the product went belly up the next.Cheers!

TorkerMax. After reading your post. Although it must be an authentic reply from QW.I find it misleading and unfair to them. It must be an outdated message and reply upon first purchase without the hotfixes.B/C further reading as far as I can remember, I experienced just a couple of those contents.Still in all, I will still push to fly one again this weekend to really see. I have to agree woth T Headlam. I have never encountered most of the bugs mentioned. Come on people, be fair...

I would point out that QW has been open about all the 'reported' issues. That is not usually the case, developers don't usually maintain a public list of all the reported issues. When you list 'all' the reported issues, its going to look worse than it really is.As T. Headlam noted Not every customer experiences all the issues, but if 'one' customer reported itwe put it on the list. Some of those listed items really fall into the enhancement request category like beingable to exclude the control column in the VC so it doesn't block the EHSI.It's something we chose to be open about as part of customer support, and perhaps this is the price we have to pay for it I guess.Regards.Ernie Alston.QualityWings 757 Gauge Programmer.

As others have said, the modelling (VC in particular) and sounds are superb. Yes there's a load of bugs just now but QW are handling them and their customer support thus far has been the best I've ever experienced from any developer. The fact that they've listened to customers and are implementing features, not originally planned on for SP1 is highly commendable. If you just want a quick and decent 757 to fly around then get the captain sim (captain sim VC whilst greatly detailed doesn't look even remotely like the flightdeck of a 757).If you want to be a part of and help contribute to a fantastic new company with a potentially great product then get the QW.

I agree with the above completely. Despite being under a lot of pressure, they really seem to be trying their best with regard to customer support. Based on the way they've responded to my minor issue, I'm more than happy to cut them some slack and wait for SP1.I see their product as something clearly advertised as a light systems model (maybe medium if they implement some of the suggested functionality) - sort of half PMDG level for half the price of a PMDG model, which seems fair enough to me. However, if someone hasn't purchased and is still thinking about it, they may as well wait until SP1 is released.

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

Here are a few quick questions for anyone who has this QW 757. Can I select my own wingview by going to "virtual cockpit" mode and walking back to pick my seat vie Active Camera, the way I can with most models. Or am I limited to the wing views that come with the airplane. And most importantly, would I be able to use the sounds in another model? Or are they limited to this aircraft. From what I have heard the sounds alone would be worth the money
