January 21, 201016 yr Just FYI to any potential buyers, the overcast is pathetic with Zinertek clouds even when coupled with AS and using the 2-layer feature. They are completely see-through, and look more like scattered than overcast. As soon as I uninstalled them and went back tothe default clouds, my overcast layer looked pretty decent.James
January 21, 201016 yr James: Thanks for the heads up! This is a bit of a brief and somewhat subjective review--by any chance do you have any screen shots from the Zinertek? I've never used (or was even aware of) this product -- you know what they say: one man's trash is another man's feast. Or something like that . . . :( Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. Or something like that . . . :(Chuck: yes, definitely subjective, and I don't have any screenshots. All I can say is that with two overcast stratus layers, first from 1500-3000, second from 3500-7000, they truly looked like 5/10 scattered from above (at 20,000 ft or so), and I could see the ground very easilyAs soon as I uninstalled the clouds and did the same test with the default clouds, I have a good overcast layer with no ground visible.JamesDoes this imply that you could selectively install just the rain and snow effects? You can't selectively install. You have to install everything. HOWEVER, oddly enough, the uninstaller is selective. You can uninstall: clouds only; rain only; snow only; or runway lights only. So, I just have the rain, snow, and runway lights installed. Clouds removed.James
January 22, 201016 yr James: Thank you. Do you like those elements as much as Geoff (post above) does? FWIW, I've never really seen a "great" solid overcast layer in flight simulator, so this issue is not unique to Zinertek's product. YMMV. Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. The Zinertek website has screenshots of the rain (if I recall). I'll say this: if I knew the clouds were crappy when overcast, I would not have paid $20 to only have better rain/snow.James
January 23, 201016 yr Can somebody say REX?? I have a great looking overcast layer, and coupled with Activesky it can't be beaten. I have the contrails from Zinertek, but that's all Matt L.
January 23, 201016 yr Cohort: How difficult is REX to set up and run? I currently use active sky 6.5 and Flight Environment (both payware, and have been around for a couple of years, at least) and they are stunning when running in tandem. Someone in another thread told me I probably wouldn't see significant improvement with REX from what I already have, and I would tend to think so. I've been reading a lot about REX, but I don't want to spend 35.00 USD to get basically what I already have and have to hassle with setting it up, too!Looking at the screen shots on the REX website, it appears that what I've had seems to be what everyone was looking for for the past two years! :( Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. January 23, 201016 yr Any thoughts on the ZUW aircraft lights or the lightning effects?I like the lighting effects on my shockwave 3D lights - nicer than the original. As for the selective install - no, I just ran REX2004 afterwards and this overwrote many of the textures...Geoff
