  1. I was looking for a full moon in FS2004 tonight to do some comparing of moon textures. I couldn't find one. Googled "FS2004 full moon". Found this thread only 8+ years old. Set FS time to Sep. 11, 2003. Voilia! A beautiful full moon.I'm still amazed by this sim. Thanks to the posters from many years ago!

As soon as they announce the next sale, I'm buying the whole friggin' FS2004 catalog! :( (At least the aircraft on sale).
  3. Flying the SSTSIM Concorde at 50k-60k, or AlphaSim's SR-71 at 85k in FS9, I'm too busy managing the fuel and monitoring the systems, just to keep the plane stable, to spend much time viewing the outside world. And as others have said, what's to see at that altitude?

The Reality XP Sandel SN3308 EFIS will show you lightning strikes or cells, just not clouds per se.Brandon
  5. Well I never did get a reply from them. I finally found my account info without their help. If this is their idea of customer service when I'm looking to buy from them I guess I should expect even less when I need technical support. :(

I've had that problem more than once over the years. Usually it's the power supply but once it was the video card.Brandon
  7. I'm surprised you don't care for the VC. I've always thought it was very well done.Brandon
  8. I've been using Ultimate Defrag for years. I wanted to upgrade to the latest version but I couldn't find my account info. I emailed Disktrix. Waited a week. Nothing. Emailed again four days ago. Still nothing. No spam filters blocking their email. Anyone ever email them and get a response? At this point I'm ready to try another product.Brandon
  9. I've been using kb_utils.zip for years. It's not perfect but it's simple and does the job.File Description:A general utility for Flight Simulator 2004 kneeboard. It provides a full web browser with back and forward buttons, a user friendly interface, a print function for webpages, documents and images, quick acces to weather and chart services, a online logbook, chat and forum, a chart viewer, a notepad for writing down frequencies, aircrat checklists and many other functions, all this inside flight simulator without having to minimize it by using the kneeboard. You can browse the internet, search for charts and metar reports, print them and even move file and folder in the computer while flying at 35000 ft. without ever seeing the desktop. I do recall that I modded it to suit my liking.Brandon
  10. Do you use Active Camera?
  11. I've been using Instant Scenery for a few days now and I find it very easy to use. I really appreciate the Thumbnail Maker as well. I thought it would allow me to take screenshots of individual objects, but the fact that it creates all of your thumbnails automatically at once is very cool. :( I sat staring at the screen for about an hour as it did its job. Anyway, it's a good thing I did because about an hour into it my rudder pedals started to drift and I had to keep manually re-centering the objects. Then at some point FS9 crashed on what I'm assuming was a bad bgl. As for the drift, I guess the easiest fix is just to disconnect the pedals before I start Thumbnail Maker. Anyone else have this issue?Brandon
  12. Any thoughts on the ZUW aircraft lights or the lightning effects?
  13. It seems to me like there's a lot more commercial scenery available for Europe than the U.S. I think the Northeast is particularly poorly represented. I'd love to see more photorealistic scenery and enhanced airports for the Northeastern U.S. for FS9.
  14. That's the problem I have with Zinertek products. No install options. No backup of your original textures in some products. I bought Ultimate Airport Environment. Had to hunt for and download the uninstaller. Re-install UAE. Then manually install the original textures over the UAE ones I didn't want. Apparently the FSX uninstaller for UAE gives you options but not the FS9 version. Why not put the options up front at the time of the install?
  15. HEAR! HEAR! :( I'd much rather buy from Flight1 than anyone else.Brandon
  16. LCS raises a good point. As I add library objects, aren't I going to run into multiple objects with the same texture name? red_hanger.bmp, cessna_172.bmp, etc.? There's got to be a lot of different versions of the same common objects out there.
  17. I just purchased Instant Scenery and installed my first object from a downloaded library without too much difficulty. Is there any advantage to placing each downloaded library in its own folder within the Addon Scenery Folder? At first I thought it would be easier to keep track of the libraries I've added, but it seems Instant Scenery does that for you somewhat with the library menu. Do most people just throw everything into one subfolder?-Brandon
  18. Still waiting... Should be done in 2010. 2011 at the latest. :( Brandon
  19. I have the standard GE textures and I'm very happy with it. I've always thought that changing ground textures based upon the weather/time of day was unecessary, particularly on long flights where you're going to encounter a variety of environmental conditions.Brandon
  20. As Graeme said, the SSTSIM Concorde is the most detailed/realistic Concorde presently available. Keep in mind, however, that your friend would be starting out with what is likely the most complicated aircraft in the FS world. I've been flying multi-engine aircraft "by the book" in FS for 20+ years and still found the SSTSIM to be challenging to the point of frustration at times. It's simply not flown like any other aircraft and I probably wouldn't recommend it for someone just starting out. Still, if he's a Concorde fanatic like you say, he'll probably appreciate the detail of the aircraft.

I switched to Kaspersky a couple of years ago and I'll never use another AV. As Mike said, there is absolutely no difference in frame rates with it active or disabled. It's not a resource hog like most AV programs. And it alerted me to programs that were accessing the internet without my knowledge. The only problem I've ever had with it is that for some reason I do have to disable it before using a plane with a RealityXP GPS gauge installed. There's probably an easy fix that I haven't found but temporarily disabling Kaspersky is easy as well. I definitely recommend it.

I think Jay Jay was around before the PC-12, not sure about Snuffy, but I could be wrong. For some reason those animated planes just seem creepy to me!:-hmmm
  23. Several years ago Public Television produced a film entitled Over New England. It's a fairly well done flyover of most of the notable cities, attractions and significant geography of all the New England states. There's little narration but all of the sites are identified with a subtitle so you know what you're viewing. I recommend it. I think that it would definitely inspire you for your trip. http://www.amazon.com/Over-New-England/dp/B000A3G58S:-)
  24. That quote is what caught my attention in that story. It seems that most of the public's knowledge about how airplane's work comes from movies.
  25. I use FSGenesis because you can get almost the entire FS9 world covered for one reasonable price; FSGenesis is arguably the most popular mesh product- it looks and works fantastic; and the developer's support of the product is excellent.-Brandon
