Runway Glitch

Featured Replies

Hello all. I was quite frustrated recently, about to finish a perfect flight from MGA to LPB when, upon touchdown, the gear of my 757 sunk into the Bolivian ground, and crashed.I thought this error might be because of scenery I added, so I deleted the scenery, deleted any updated AFCADs, leaving stock scenery/AFCAD - and re-tested. Still, on landing (using a variety of aircraft) - the wheels inevitably magically sink into the terrain. Interestingly enough, the planes take off fine - it is just on landing that they crash.Any known fixes/work arounds for this? I could skip the airport but I want to experience the fun of taking off and landing at one of the world's highest commercial airports.Thanks.

finish a perfect flight ... to LBP
I am assuming this is LBPD?I tested it in a default FS9 without problems.I suspect you still have some addons active for that airport. What was the filename for the addon you had for that airport, and where did you get it?Do you have any addon mesh active for that area?regards,Joe

Sorry, mistype in the first post. The airport is LPB, SLLP (El Alto Intl - La Paz, Bolivia) .I have no active mesh in the area (never have added any mesh)The original scenery I added was "elaltov1.zip" . I actually deleted the scenery from the FS9 folder before restarting the tests.

Could it possibly be because you're landing a bit too hard?

I tested with and without the addon (nice addon, by the way) without any problems.Without any addon active for that airport, the only explanation I can think of would be a modified default file, which happens with some addon installs.Do you have any other addons that might have changed default files? The default files cover a big area, these in particular cover as far away as San Rafael, Peru.regards,Joe

After a few more testings the problem seems to have been eliminated (or gone into hiding). We'll see after this next flight.I don't think it had to do with landing speed. One of my tests involved the Cessna 172 where I had a very smooth touchdown and a very long slow down run (to test different parts of the runway) - around halfway the left gear just started slipping into the ground. Also on the first "crash" , my landing (according to FSPassengers) was around -480 f/s - which is not super graceful, but doesn't seem like enough for the whole gear to fail into the ground. Perhaps not, though. If I continue to have problems I'll update the thread. Thanks for your ideas guys.

Sounds like a terrain layering and/or elevation issue. Some people were having that issue with FT TNCM where the whole aircraft (especially ai) were sinking into the ground...in this scenario, the aircraft was sitting the default terrain while the addon scenery itself was 20ft above that, and it was only on the runway. Another situation like this involved Ultimate Terrain and the offroading effect it presented at certain airports if they weren't placed in the correct order.

I tested it also today - with several default aircraft and could not duplicate the OP's issue. This is on a default FS2004 setup with no enhancements of any kind in that area.
