So Mitch, do you still use FS9 more than FSX with your new super PC? Because of the high FPS and performance within FS9 as compared to FSX even with the extra eye candy of FSX?
Wally, I have settled into using FS9.75 for all my Heavy Iron flights, with the occasional IFR started with FSXFor VFR, of which I do fly a lot of...hand's down FSX!For Heavy Iron work...having 60 FPS in the cockpit is a really nice option. REX2004 and GE Pro v2.13 brings it all home for FS9.

Mitch, Just took a loot at the shots. The fs9 shots look exactly like mine. It's clearly visible that there is a line where the ground textures start to blur slightly. That's normal and is a limitation of fs9. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something :( . Great shots by the way.
Thanks. :)What I used to get on my P4 3.4 GHz...was a total coming apart of the textures with roads and cityscape turning into something other than what it was supposed to be. With this system, I have roads, auto-gen, and city scape that is recognizable right out to the skyline. Perhaps that is what I should have stated as 'crystal clear'. Horizon haze is always present for me, as it takes away some of the shortcomings of FS9.x Before this rig....I also used to have whole BLOCKS of undefined scenery struggling to get formed. Thank goodness I don't suffer that anymore. It was a total bummer... The best thing I ever did was to purchase the i7-based system. The smile has not stopped since forming last July!Mitch

What you wrote is what I've been coming around to on my new PC. I'm starting to use FSX just for my VFR flights and will use FS9 for my VA IFR flights due to its performance. Many thanks for your insight into this, Mitch.

Thanks Mitch,Interesting that you run with MIP at 8, I will try that but I also noticed you run AntiAliasing ON within FS9... Do you have NHancer set to enhance in game AA or forced to 8xs or 16xs? Very interested in that... Other than that, maybe I will give your FS9.cfg settings a try... I heard that values over 4 are not recognized in those sections but you have 232 and it is clearly working fine for you ;)Also for this line:CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=8Switch it to 10 or 12. I use 10 and it fills "almost" the entire screen with clouds when at FL360 just like in the real world, 12 goes all the way to the edge but with bad weather it can really tax the system. I find 10 to be a nice balance. Beware, any changes made to the display options from within FS will overwrite that and set it back to 8 but if you manually set it and don't change anything in FS it will hold. Thanks again Mitch, much appreciated and glad to see you over here on the dark side more and more :)Cheers,-Paul

This is what alot of FS9 guys have been saying for years but we just get told:A. we are poor and fly FS9 because we can't afford systems for FSX (what a load of sh*t)B. we are pirates (see above comment)C. FS9 is dead (see above above comment)D. We should move to FSX and get over it (See above above above comment)E. 20 FPS in FSX is the same as 40 or 60 in FS9 (see above above above above comment)F that LOL!!Sorry, couldn't resist...-Paul

------------------------------------------------------------------------Most sorry about that PAUL! I thought 'p' was for Peter. Yes, I find that you need to use A.A. set as 'on' in FS9 Yes...you are astute! I use Enhance A.A. IN GAME with the lastest build of nHancer in conjunction with the in-sim setting. I'll ramp up 8 to 10 as per your suggestion and see how I like it. Thanks for the tip! As stated to another, Heavy Iron/FS9.75 VFR/FSX. Most happy with that! :)Cheers, Paul.Mitch

No worries at all Mitch!Peter, Paul, Mary, what's the difference we're all a group LOL!!! I am going to give your settings a try... FS is a lot like golf only instead of chasing the perfect swing of the club into that stupid little white ball we are all searching for Clarity and FPS LOL... I think for most of us with FS9 FPS is no longer an issue.Hope you like the cloud tip!-Paul

-----------------------------------------------------Paul...I invite you (in the Screen Shot Forum) to check out my 'test cloud at 12' flight. I took a Nobel Air 737-300 up for a spin to Sarasota, FL, out of Detroit Metro, MI. I posted the pics with great cloudscape generated by REX2004/AS 6.5/Cloud_Density=12One of the posts had too many pics as I was editing so I imagine that Geofa will be deleting that one. There is another with 10 acceptable pics. I like what I see. I'll keep it between 10 and 12. :)Thanks again for that one.Mitch

LOL Paul, that gave me a good laugh (and it's 6:30AM over here), thank you! :( We are all doomed & practically dead with eye patches over the left eye and a wooden leg? Okee... works for me, LOL.And what, pray, makes FSX more "alive" compared to FS9, huh? Nah... I don't want to go there. Not worth it..., so I move to point F :( Thanks for an interesting thread, I am going to try a few of these settings because I feel I am also one notch blurrier than Mitch :( Interesting indeed, in-game AA.... I heard (and tried it) that it was an absolute no-no. Time to re-evaluate my beliefs, huh? Paul: thanks for the tip about cloud coverage, didn't know that! Ok, I better get to work now.Regards,Jure

Glad you like that Jure! Point F is clearly my favorite! I think the clouds set to 10 in the config is the perfect balance. Clouds to the horizon without as much impact on the system as 12 or 15...Cheers!-Paul
