January 25, 201016 yr I just took (on pause to type this) off from Detroit Metro (Michigan), bound for Moncton, (New Brunswick, Canada) running under AS 6.5, REX2004, GE Pro, AISmooth...and it just can't get any better with that 'crew'. Until REX2004, the sky never looked as real-to-life as it does now. Cloud scape is simply amazing to pass through. I had nothing like this until I dropped the coin for REX2004. The sky palette with my choice of City tinged with pollution..is verbatim to what you actually do see. Again, simply amazing in what all the above products has done to make things for all intense and purposes...mimicking real life aviation. You run the programs, and find that you have already stated this user-observation in the past, within forums, but the 'wow factor' never diminishes...especially when going through atmospherics that is taking my locked 60 FPS on a i7-975/GTX 285 system down to 25 fps for brief periods! REX2004 driven by AS 6.5 is amazing........I'd love to see a new simulation product come out, as we all would...but with FS9.x and FSX running with associated complimentary programs as it is on my system, I could be genuinely happy for years to come with status quo.I'd have to say though that the latest two programs I have purchased that so radically changed the look and feel at flight...has been REX2004, and REX v2 for FSX. Hand's down.... The mornings, days, evening sunsets..with the colors splashed upon the mutli-layers of clouds, is very dramatic to say the least! Totally immersive.Back to another great flight experience.....and thank you once more to all the developers of so many wonderful aids and additions to the core FS9 and FSX. To all of you...that create; texture, aircraft, dynamics, tweaks,...all venues of programs. Thanks for making it 'real' for me. Truly real....that you actually feel you are in real-world flight.... Thank you, all!Post (in-flight) edit: Just a comment as I am passing Toronto at FL270...with having installed Windows 7 Ultimate and with running nVidia's driver suite 195.62 (that was the only change to my system as I comment here...) I have crystal clear scenery textures right out to the horizon, that I never had before. I always had some slight form of soft-focus at or near the 150 miles out of the horizon. Since having gone to the above, whether in FSX or FS9, having clear and well defined textures has GREATLY added to the sense of realism. I had been on a flight yesterday from Rome to Detroit...and with this new clarity from what I guess is the W7/195.62 combo, it was so easy to settle back with a wing view..and so enjoy FSX which was being used for that flight, and believe I was actually there... Windows 7 works!Mitch
January 26, 201016 yr My only complaint with my (new) 1 year old system with FS2004 is the scenery is NOT clear to the horizon. Will you PLEASE upload a screenshot showing your "clear to the horizon" scenry? Thanks jerrycwo4

Will you PLEASE upload a screenshot showing your "clear to the horizon" scenry? Thanks jerrycwo4Yes, please do. If you dont mind, please take the sceenshot from either 2D or VC, with zoom set to around .8 and in a way that we can see the ground textures 'to the horizon'. With my lower altitude visibility limited to 30 miles, I can clearly see that my textures are def not clear all the way to 30 miles. I'd be interested to see what yours looks like. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

Sorry if you went there to find them. I'm just going to fly now...and put away the camera. ;)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ok... I took a you-know-what load of shots in FS9 and FSX. They all show well defined scenery and textures with continuity right out to the horizon. In some, there is haze of course, but that is not what I mean about the old dreaded blocky textures, that shear off to the horizon, that FS9 is famous for. If you look at my shots, you will see a very natural and uninterrupted progression of scenery from fields, to mountain ranges WAY OUT THERE>... :)I have shots from my system uploaded as per requests, to show continuity of textures right to the horizon. No block patches as sometimes happens in FS9 and some FSX to show what the horizon looks like in that sim. Roads and other fixtures that stay in focus and well formed as they lead out towards the horizon.........enjoy!

It appears that had more than 10 images per message. That has been corrected.Enjoy.Mitch
January 26, 201016 yr Mitch, Just took a loot at the shots. The fs9 shots look exactly like mine. It's clearly visible that there is a line where the ground textures start to blur slightly. That's normal and is a limitation of fs9. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something :( . Great shots by the way. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

I then installed FSX on my new PC and installed MyTraffic, GEX, UTX and so on and really like the eye candy with the moving cars and great autogen especially in the cities. But I miss my high frame rates that I get from FS9 compared to 30 fps or lower with many slowdowns in FSX.I'm going crazy trying to decide which one to use to fly my VA flights with. I love the eye candy of FSX, but hate the so-so performance compared to the super performance of FS9 on my machine with the many addons I have.

I would say it is 1 level blurrier... I was just wondering what FS9.cfg settings you use specifically here:TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40...TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=4TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4And then what AA/AF do you use in Nhancer? Your pics really look great,Thanks in advance,-P Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

I usually get 60 fps, but with heavy weather and using REX's HD clouds in heavily populated areas, the fps drops down to 25-35 sometimes. I'm talking like being at KJFK with an overcast cloud and lots of traffic around.

I was running:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=4TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=3TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1But just changed to TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=4TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4 and actually see a significant improvement. I did have that MaxTex line in my .cfg and removed it and I do now notice a slight pop of the textures where I might see a split second of the texture loading on AI for example... I think I may be due for a complete re-install, it has been a long time with this same build. Probably two years so she is due for a refresh. But I am definitely getting closer. I also run 16xs with SS (helps eliminate the tiny bit of shimmering that was left at some sceneries) with a LOD CLAMP of -1.000 just to sharpen it up that tiny bit more with 16xAF. Running at 2048*1152.Thanks again, interested to hear what Mitch and Red are running...-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

January 27, 201016 yr Author Every single graphic option in FS9 is cranked full up including traffic density. I usually get 60 fps, but with heavy weather and using REX's HD clouds in heavily populated areas, the fps drops down to 25-35 sometimes. I'm talking like being at KJFK with an overcast cloud and lots of traffic around.----------------------------------------------Wally, I agree with that. As stated, when there is major atmospherics (multi layers, heavy scud, less-than-steller weather...) I also might drop to 25-30, but they as you, are merely dips and climb right back up to my locked 60. It never stays there for more than a second or two. I am very satisfied with it all!!!Mitch

Because of the high FPS and performance within FS9 as compared to FSX even with the extra eye candy of FSX?
