January 26, 201016 yr I hope this was some form of humor, otherwise I wouldn't put too much faith in it. I have been wrong before... but of point, Flightzone forums haven't been updated in a LONG time, and the awaited FSX patch for KPDX has been on the burner since FSX was released... several years ago. If he has moved on, good for him, however, as much as I would love to see my hometown including Troutdale Airport (which is only a few miles from where I write this) in FSX in the KPDX package, I honestly believe we will never get it other than in form from another company like Orbx.ORBX's first US product will be the Pacific Northwest - perhaps some of the artwork from the Flight Zone product will make it into that one.
January 26, 201016 yr Commercial Member I did the commercial preview video of PNW for Orbx. Check out my website (www.jaggyroadfilms.com) or on the Orbx website itself. My understanding from working with this project is that it is built from the ground up fresh, with some major players like Holger and Bill Womack lending a helping hand. I am not aware if "Vauchez" is part of the team.At this point, I should likely plug my mouth due to my NDA. ;) - Cody Bergland (Owner, Jaggyroad Films) Our YouTube Channel (featuring over 100 OFFICIAL product videos): https://www.youtube.com/user/valkyrie321 <- CLICK HERE
January 26, 201016 yr No, I'm not thinking about "high school type" jobs. I know many white collar jobs that will round file that resume if it has that many past jobs. Saying you will never get a raise if you stay at a job is flat out wrong, I get one every year. My brother has been a white collar employee for the state of Washington for over twenty years. He's been in the same dept for 17 years and makes way, way more than he did 17 years ago, and direct deposit is nothing new. I know moving on is sometimes the only way to move up, my Dad was a civil egineer and we moved plenty as kids. You can also hurt your chances by job hopping, new employees are a huge investment for any company and many will not spend the money on a short timer. The last thing an employeer wants is somebody who is just there for a paycheck, I think somebody of your age would remember the days of people having pride in their work. We are talking about flight sim add ons anyway, a niche with in a niche. It's such a small market that normal rules often don't apply. Flightscenery was a one man show, like 99% of all flight sim add on companies.I just hope Vauchez finishes Spokane and it aligns with Orbx, that way I can fly my Airliner XP from the fsx version of KPDX, through Orbx scenery and land at his awesome Spokane scenery.LOL at the last quote.Unfortunately, the longer I'm in this hobby, the more I'm finding out that the majority of pay ware developers are opportunistic shyters. They're either very shrewd or completely lazy and unfocused. The endless disappearing acts, vaporware, and other problems with vendors (e.g., lack of updates) is pretty ridiculous. - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
January 27, 201016 yr Here's the document you need, Guys: This is the last post by one of the authors of an earlier version of PDX - he was "bnick" on the FX02 forum, but I don't know his real name, and I claim no credit for his good work. The changes work well enough: In practice - about 100 miles inbound to PDX - I open the in-flight menu bar and then enable the scenery, as it doesn't play nice with UT_USA (coast and shore lines messed up). That way Seattle looks normal as we get airborne, and still normal as we get in on the approach to Portland. There is still some ground texture flashing around the aircraft, but it's not tooooooo noticeable, plus one can see (from below) that the car park floors have disappeared.Someone might be able to fix it.. D'you suppose Vauchez might pop in one day? :(Have fun! i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
January 27, 201016 yr Author It works. Some scenery flashes, but overall good enough for now.Thanks. MSFS

January 29, 201016 yr Author Take Fly Tampa for example. You would think that Seattle would have been updated. Why not? This was a masterpiece and I don't mind paying for an update.I'm sad that there are many great airports that have not been updated for FSX. This is a very small community. There's no reason why I should have to try to make an airport compatible with FSX when the designer could have easily taken care of an update for its customers.Instead he's decided to work for someone else. If he had any concern he would be doing something to help the community out. I hope he reads this plea. MSFS

I hope he reads this plea. This I do not agree with. You paid for an FS9 product, the dev is under no obligation to update it for FSX, and it may not be all that easy to do anyway. The difference here is Vauchez told everybody a promise is a promise, and he will update Portland for FSX.

Their ability or willingness to deliver content/upgrades is solely dependent on their personal desires and not any commitment to the customers who often wait years only to be disappointed by constant letdowns. The excuse is always the same - "This is just a hobby", "You didn't pay for anything", "We don't owe you". Also, I disagree with hmstiger's post that the vendors mentioned "show a strong commitment to their products..." One or more of these vendors have "adjusted their business model" many times to suit the bottom line and/or ignored customer pleas for updates or fixes. Btw, dmaher, I don't have any FlightZone scenery. I was commenting more on the Airliner XP fiasco. Nevertheless, I'm not a programmer, nor have I promised to make software. - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
January 31, 201016 yr Author No developer is obligated to do anything. Are they in the business of creating software? Do they want to make more money? Do they want and need happy customers? If they want customers who become ambassadors, then it would be judicious to improve or even upgrade their software.Once again, they don't owe me a thing. MSFS

Many of these developers, including some you allude too, have brought us many fine products in the past. They continually raised the bar, as has been said many times. And yes, for numerous reasons, future products just don't always work out.........and I don't expect them to press on. It's just the way it is. If there is a brighter future out there, then go for it! They don't owe me anything. I'll just appraciate what they previously added to this hobby.L.Adamson
February 2, 201016 yr Commercial Member Can I go on record here and state that Orbx has not announced anything about KPDX or indeed any former FZ staff joining our team. I believe it is all speculation based on a single user post on our forums. We generally don't announce products until we have a clearly defined project underway. Whilst we'd love to do a KPDX (and we plan to do one, and KSEA, and, and..) it's too early days yet. Right now we are close to releasing the FTX PNW region and two HD airports to go with it, 1S2 Darrington and 7S3 Twin Oaks. We also plan to enhance the Portland region quite substantially with blended photoreal areas, but sadly it missed the cut for the RTM release of PNW, and will be in a service pack.I have FZ's KPDX and FT's KSEA running in FSX, but I had to remove too many elements from the FS9 components to avoid conflicts and excludes, which left them both looking a little 'stripped', shall we say? Cheers, John Venema

I'm really looking forward to those two add-on airports. Even if it takes years. MSFS
