Duke and FPS loss

Featured Replies

Interesting thread...I searched for exactly this for I received the Duke dvd yesterday and installed it. For me, the Duke is taking a major fps hit compared to the Scout package and the SF260. Took off from Opa Locka in Miami last night and had fps of 16-17 on the taxiway. I haven't seen anything less than 30 in the other planes. Now this was at 5:30 pm local, rush hour, I have road traffic at 40%, as well as airline and GA at 40%. This was in default FSX scenery as I also received UTX-USA yesterday. (Waiting to install it...currently in the middle of a 4.5 hour defrag) Want to see the differences in this area between default and UTX and I'll be getting GEX once installed. My other relevant settings are Dense/dense scenery/autogen. This morning I did a little test at my local airport, French Valley(F70) with Megascenery. Sitting on rwy 36 in the Scout, I was getting 55-60+ frames. With the Duke, 33-37. That's a big hit! I'll work my traffic settings (using MyTraffic X btw) and see what I can get. I'm sure I'll find a good compromise. Appreciate the comments already posted, as it's helpful that several of you had to make adjustments to get the Duke running smoothly.

The Duke is far more complex in polygon's and programming than the SF260 and Scout... you need to factor that in. For me I just make sure my mouse cursor is off the screen and things go back to normal. There's also options in the configurator panel prior to starting FSX...

Even though I only mentioned the fps impact, I do understand the Duke has a lot more going on than the other Real Air planes I have. I am really enjoying this plane thus far, I just didn't think there would be that much performance loss. Like everything else FSX, compromises must be made at times. I've just gotten so used(spoiled?) to flying very light planes from Real Air that take a zero performance hit on FSX, and figured anything Real Air would be similar.
