March 5, 201016 yr If Microsoft is going to downgrade it from a simulation to a game then I have no interest in it and I suspect I won't be alone. If kids want "flash bang wallop" surely there are enough of those games on the market already? The FS 'franchise' ( I hate that word!) was their most successful leisure software package over 20 years. Just because they messed up with FSX that's no reason to pull the plug and revert to a game console package for kids. All the more reason to stay with FS9 and move to FSX in 2-3 years when the hardware has caught up.I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out with pliers than buy an X-Box and as for paying for on-line flying...! :( If Microsoft is going to downgrade it from a simulation to a game then I have no interest in it and I suspect I won't be alone. I recommend you read the posts again. The Xbox doesn't even have the power to run FSX!Games for Windows LIVE is exactly what it says. GAMES FOR WINDOWS AKA PC, Computer, how can I explain it better than that? If it was for Xbox, they would say XBOX LIVE, but in all the job descriptions they said Games For Windows LIVE. LIVE for computer is absolutely free. At first you had to pay, but they actually listened to the community (which was very small at the time and was at the beginning of Games For Windows) and changed Games For Windows Online services to free. Xbox LIVE is not free. (If they listened to the few people to make Games For Windows LIVE free, they will listen to the bigger FS community to not put it on the Xbox, even though it wasn't being developed for Xbox in the first place :()SoFree*Games for Windows LIVENOT Free*Xbox LIVEMaybe I should just stop wasting my time, because they will never release it for the Xbox 360, and Microsoft is having such success with the 360 in terms of sales, that they said they are nowhere near making a new Xbox in the coming years. You can believe what you want but in the end Microsoft will never release Flight Sim LIVE for the Xbox, they have alwasy said Games for Windows LIVE. LIVE is a lot better than the crappy gamespy that we have in FSX. It allows you to see who is transmitting, mute them if they are annyoing, and ban/kick them while you are playing. Also if you think its going to be a subscription game I highly doubt it and I don't know why you assume so fast or where you got the rumors from. There is NO GAME in Games For Windows LIVE where you have to subscribe, because Games For Windows LIVE is FREE. If you want to pay subscription fees, go play World of Warcraft. And for ALL the people that think Microsoft will put Flight Simulator on Xbox. Think again and use your brain next time please. Xbox does not even have 1/3 of the power to run a flight simulator on the system, let alone they type of DVD reader they use. The DVD reader in the Xbox's limitation is only being able to read DL (Double Layer) DVDs, which have around an 8GB MAXIMUM capacity formatted. Also don't you notice you INSTALL Flight Simulator on your computer instead of running it from the disk. Wonder why that is? That is because the files on the FSX Discs are HIGHLY compressed .cab files and the installer DECOMPRESSES these files to the hard drive on your PC (This is why it takes 30-1 hour to install even the BEST PCs. This is NOT possible on the Xbox due to the memory of the xbox, and hardware limitations such as read/write speed from the DVD to the hard drive. The Xbox has 512MB of INTERNAL DDR3 memory, and it has different varieties of external storage such as a 256MB and 512MB, memory unit which is not even enough to use as TEMPORARY memory to decompress planes, scenery, autogen, etc. for one area. There are also 20GB and 120GB HDDs and AGAIN there is NO way to decompress the files from the DVD to the Hard Drive even if it is just for a second. Not even the fastest NASA computer will be able to decompress the files from an FSX DVD fast enough with the read and storage limitation of DVDs TO a Hard Drive to load up one area for a split second then delete that temporary decompressed file to load a different area, AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING THIS ONE BIT, SOMEONE THAT KNOWS ENOUGH ABOUT TECHNOLOGY KNOWS THIS IS TRUE. THIS is why Microsoft cannot put FSX on the Xbox. I know what your going to ask? NO, not even if they get Nasa to do it for them, some things are just not possible...To cut this short. The memory limitations and the speed of the hardware on the Xbox make it almost impossible to port flight simulator to the xbox. Plus porting all that interaction that is done with the mouse and keyboard or controller will take YEARS and YEARS to port, so overall it is not worth it. Microsoft knows nobody will buy Flight Simulator for the Xbox.. even if the consumer did NOT know there was a flight simulator for PC.and might I add to that. That 512MB of internal memory can be shared with the GPU. FSX or FS11 on Xbox 360 = hell, and next to impossible. The DVD media is simply too slow, that is why on the PC you install it, because FSX is actually 15GBs and if it were to read of the disc. the performance problems we have now with fsx would be far worse. No DVD can fit 15GBs. Xbox uses DVD. So its not possible. If FSX is 15GBs think about how large the next release will be.
