March 5, 201016 yr My system: Gigabyte P55/I7 860/8 Gig 1366 Ram/ATI 4850 - all at stock.Except for the known ATI issue [diagonal tearing in some 2D sub panels {eg CDU}], FSX DX 9 runs extremely well.Recently I have been testing FSX DX 10 Preview mode - it improves on DX9 mode {no tearing etc} but there are major graphics problems. Sometime after TO, the picture is suddenly totally corrupt. Several textures turn black, others are invisible and in spot in view the model is totally corrupt with missing textures and others in the wrong position. The 2D panel and menu bar have disappeared in both full screen and windowed modes and I cannot use the mouse - BUT sound continues to run, the keyboard controls all operate and {for example} I can save the flight and I can shut down FSX normally. If I do not shut down, FSX runs normally and can be monitored on {for example} FS Commander. Using MD11X, I have had this happen after 30 mins yet have also flown 6 hours before it occurred.I am monitoring fps, hardware status and CPU Z when this occurs and nothing is out of the ordinary. Using default 747, the corrupt picture appeared after 2 hours? With FSX continuing to to run normally within Win 7, it appears to be a Graphics Card problem. But I have tried all possible tweaks, 3 different ATI drivers, and reinstalled FSX twice - all with no change.Yet the ATI card runs perfectly in the normall FSX DX9 mode.V grateful for any advice
March 5, 201016 yr Moderator There is a reason why it was termed a "DX10 Preview." The code to actually make it work properly was never written nor tested... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 5, 201016 yr I don't have an answer for your problem, pretty much what n4gix said. But also want to add yes, graphic issues aside there are >some performance benefits to DX10 preview, but rarely is it taken into account that in DX10-preview Antialiasing is limited to a paltry 2xAA, if we compare DX9 at 2xAA levels the performance "gain" of DX10 is much less than what is often mentioned.BTW What OS are you using?Paul
April 5, 201016 yr Author Spent the last few weeks trying to resolve this.I have forced VSync using ATI Tray Tools and Riva Tuner, I have tried all the tweaks currently being discussed {buffer pools etc etc}, different ATI drivers and all combinations of the graphics sliders but the graphics corruption invariably occurs at some stage in a flight. I have had it as early as 45 mins after TO or not until 4 hrs into the flight. It seems random but very often occurs in the descent after 1+ hr cruise. Note that other than the graphics, FSX continues to run with no error messages - on one test I left it running and the aircraft followed the FMC plan and completed an ILS and auto-land {I selected gear and flaps when I estimated it was the right time using the keyboard?} apparantly normally? I can always shut FSX down normally.I have monitored the flights using CPU-Z and GPU-Z and Hardware monitor. All readouts appear normal with no change when the grphics corruption occurs {for example Max GPU load never exceeds 63% and all temps are well within limits}. However I can only clear it by re-starting FSXI can run in DX9 with no problems. I have searched the forums but can find no similar case - so in case it helps anyone who might have seen this before at some time, I attach two screenshots

April 6, 201016 yr I would advise you to rebuild a new FSX.CFG and not to use the Bufferpools=0 tweak.Good luck. April 6, 201016 yr Author Thanks all. I have rebuilt the FSX.cfg several times with no effect. My graphics card is a 4850 with 512 mb memory and I have 8 Gig main RAM.John R
