ILS approach not aligned with runway centre

Featured Replies

I have just noticed that the ILS feathers for some airport runways in FSX don't line up. As a result the ILS approach is to the side and not the centre of the runway. Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

There are a few ILS's at busy airports that do not follow the extended runway centerline such as JFK ILS22R. You didn't mention which ones you include in 'some' so I don't know if you have found a problem or not. Compare a current chart with the old FSX ILS (all their data is more than six years old), if it is wrong it can be fixed with an afcad utility such as Airport Design Editor.

Thanks for your response Dan, the ILS approaches end up terminating beside the runway, the runway heading and ILS approach are the same. This means the ILS needs to be moved sideways to be correct. ILS 27 at WADD and ILS 16 L at YSSY. These two approaches terminate beside the runways and not in the centrline of the runways. I checked the charts and this is not supposed to be the case. How I found this is was by zooming in on the airport using FSCommander which shows the ILS feathers. Some of the feathers were not aligned correctly. With these two airports, WADD and YSSY, I then flewthe approaches, ILS 27 at WADD and 16 L at YSSY. The aircarft approached using the correct runway heading but landed on the grass beside the runway.

download the latest afcad files from the library, and try again

You might have a tracking error that is fixed by running the registry repair tool, free from Flight1. If you have Vista/W7, run the utility with admin rights.

Go to the avsim library and look for afcads for fsx. You can also, as I mentioned, get Airport Design Editor from the library and create/update these yourself. They usually are put in to the addons scenery folder. There is a wealth of information on these in the scenery design forum, also in avsim.

Thanks for your advice. I downloaded ADE9x and fixed the localizer direction at YSSY and moved the Localizer at WADD. Both are now perfect.

  • 4 years later...

I hate to post on a 5 year old thread, but I am having this exact same issue, with most of the airports that I fly into with the PMDG MD-11X.  But this is the only aircraft that I have the problem with.  With both the PMDG 737NGX and the PMDG 777, as well as all captain sim aircraft, the approach course is perfectly lined up.  But with the MD-11X it is normally off at least 5-10 degrees, which makes the autoland not available.  I would think that if this was an afcad file problem that it would occur with all my aircraft, not just one of them.  Airports that I have noticed this at include KMEM, KEWR, RJAA, KMIA, and KSDF.

Does anyone have ant ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks.

Hi,

As far as I remember, there is an option to use the fsx default course instead of the actual in the NGX and in the T7 but I don't remember if it the case with the MD-11.

As said above, fsx has an old magnetic variation database. Maybe it the cause why you have discrepencies in the MD-11 and not with the others.

Try the registry repair tool, free from Flight1. Be sure to run as admin.  Odds are if it's not the AFCAD then it's a registry glitch.

There's also this link to another thread here in the PMDG forums describing a "magnetic variation" fix for FS9 and FSX.  It definitely did the trick for me.
