March 13, 201016 yr Hey guys, the question I have for the gurus out there is this,I want to get the new 980 i7 processor to replace my i7 920, will I need to reinstall my OS afterwards, or will it just be good to go.I know I have to update my BIOS to take advantage of the 6 cores.ThanksThis thread has gotten out of hand, and the interesting thing is, it's always the same users.Anyway:If on Win7, as I am, you won't have to do a thing, much same like I did not have to. Went from P5Q Deluxe, E8600, 8800GT and 4GB of DDR2 RAM and 3 separate harddisks, to P6X58D, I7-920, GTX285, 6GB of DDR3 RAM and 3 new harddisks, without ANY reinstall. The system turned on like it was supposed to, then some chaos started, new hardware found etc... When it calmed down, I was in VGA mode, where I put the new chipset drivers and USB3 drivers for the new motherboard, in the end I updated the VGA drivers and voila. System running better and faster than before. Benchmarks have proven it.In the meantime, I took some time to "test" a new install, benchmarked it just for the sake of checking if reinstall would be needed, with both FS9 and FSX - I couldn't see ANY performance gain. For me, the pain of reinstalling everything (and I really have a lot) just doesn't cut it if I don't see the reason to do it.Only thing that was required reinstalling, if you can call it that, are activations of different addons, Windows and FS itself. Took me bout an hour to sort it all out.

I will once more post my suggestion and hope that this discussion will end right now: Maybe a solution and end to this discussion could be:Benchmark your system. Install the new processor and fire up Windows. Restart windows a couple of times. Benchmark your system. Compare to your previous benchmark. Do you get the expected performance compared to other benchmarks of similar systems? If the system doesn't perform as expected - reinstall Windows. My two cents :(

Any advice on how to address these kind of abuse in would be very much appreciated. English is not my native language. I cannot find any button in the PM-pages to report a message to the mods. What should I have done to handle this case in the correct way?
