Gee that's a little different from what you suggested a while back, which was to go ahead and use the same OS after switching from Nvidia to ATI or vice-versa. Now it's OK with same

The only reason one should have to reload their OS after a CPU upgrade is if the uniprocessor HAL was loaded when the O.S. was installed, and the person in question doesn't know how or is unwilling to load the multiprocessor HAL via means of a repair install, assuming Windows XP. Vista or newer can handle the change with no problem.

Who ever said you have to reinstall the OS to just put a 980 into your existing Motherboard doesn't know squat. You'll be fine.Like you said, just make sure the BIOS has the 980 update and your good to go!When are these available?---Dont feed the squirrels---

Lol, broadening my horizons, read back through this thread, did I not mention taking this conversation into a real hardware forum?By the way NickN from Simforums.com has been a great source of information as far as FSX is concerned.
