March 18, 201016 yr So it works with one monitor and it works with two monitors. That's quite a stretch from what you said "It simply does not work."Be a man and admit it when you are wrong.Cheers,- jahman.First of all, I never said a passive adapter "does not work". They do however not work in the setups we're talking about. If you cared to read the original post, you can see that the poster was talking about FIVE monitors for external views. Also, Mike_CFII_MEL has been talking about using THREE monitors. It's interesting how your keep changing your story. Thanks for the entertainment though.
March 18, 201016 yr Hi jahman,Clueless, I think not. Maybe you should re-read my post #10 again, I'll make it easy for you. Here is a copy and past of the post you have quoted, take a look at the "BOLD" text I now supply to help YOU better understand what you have read and failed to comprehend. I've talked about active adapters since post #10 (Setpup #2 - States Not Needed | Setup #3 - States 1 Needed), I also mentioned Passive adapters (Setup #4) to point out that Passive Adapters alone won't work, thats why I state 1 Active DP Converter is needed.Looks like at post #42, you finally figured out that there was a passive adapter two monitor limit. Although if you look at my post #10 (Setup #3) you will see it has already been mentioned. Thats why 1 Active Adapter is needed. But you are a-changing the story: It was me and not you who posted the max 2 limit on passive adapters in Post #42, while you were totally clueless about that limit stating all over the place that passive adapters did not work at all. So no, the passives don't work for five or six monitors, only for two, but they do work, and that was established waaay back in Post #42I'm not changing my story, you have just faild to read and comprehend what I've typed. As far as when the 2 monitor passive adapter, 3+ monitor active adapter was needed, it was established in my POST #10, just look at my Setups!.But the passive adapters do work, up to the limit of 2! Sheesh!Yes, but I already knew that, I again suggest you look at my post #10 (Setup #4)!. Actually, all you have to do is re-read and comprehend the post you quoted. So far in this whole thread, and considering that I don't own an Eyefinity yet (and neither do you), it was me who posted all the info relevant to passive adapters (showing first post where referenced):1. That the monitors had to be Single DVI (Post #12),2. Of resolution not exceeding 1900 x 1200 (Post #12),3. Up to a max limit of 2 (Post #42), and4. List of passive dongles validated by ATI (Post #42)Whereas all you brought to the table was anecdotical hearsay about your friend's situation and on two occasions dated information and/or even information relevant to a completely different card. Hardly an informational service of any value to readers following this already too lengthy exchange!!! For all we know, the reason your friend's setup didn't work could have been a dud dongle, or a monitor not fitting the requirements for a passive dongle, or both!So quit caterwauling about who changed what when and let's all get back to simming.Cheers,- jahmanI've had my hands on an ATI Eyefinity board and worked with it for 3-1/2 hours, working to get the setup YOU originally posted in post #5 (All your 5 dollar passave adapters) working on my friends computer, in the end as I said eairlier, "IT DOESN'T WORK", but I see you have now figured that out (Post #42).Matrox THG is dead. Long live ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity Edition: You get one of the most powerful video cards available today and SIX video ports (vs. THG's three). MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapters needed, but they are really cheap (5 bucks!). Actually, active MiniDP to DVI are only required for:a. Analog VGA monitors, and forb. Dual Link DVI (only used by monitors exceeding 1900 x 1200 resolution). All others (DVI monitors with 1900 x 1200 or less) can do with passive adapters. You can keep going on, but you were wrong. As for everyone else that reads these posts, it will keep them from buying more than two $5.00 passive adapters, even though in post #5 and post #12 you stated thats all that is needed.
