FSX vs PMDG Route Waypoints

Featured Replies

I normally create an FSX Flightplan and then import it into PMDG's .rte format. Sometimes, there are FSX waypoints that are not in PMDG's FMC database despite updated to the lastest AIRAC 1003.Is this because some of FSX's waypoints are out-of-date, and needs to be updated as well? If so, how can this be updated?Cheers, Harry

FSX's nav data is ancient compared to current AIRAC cycles. Plus, FSX does not understand SID/STAR procedures, and always tries to vector you to final.I use FSBuild for flight planning, Navigraph's NDAC for charts, TOPCAT for load balancing/fuel planning with my PMDG 747/MD-11. I suggest Radar Contact for offline ATC, and VATSIM for online ATC.

Yeah the FSX nav data is not in date. About the only thing its good for is VOR, but a lot of the current intersections are not there. If you fly in the US a lot you can always grab the realworld airliner flight plan from flightaware.com. Say you want to fly the realworld route from KLAX to KORD. Go to flightaware and open KLAX and find a departure to KORD and use that route. It also includes the SID and STAR so you can just copy the route and plug it into the FMC and your done. Keep in mind that if you use realworld weather you may need to change the departure or arrival based on the current weather. You can also find international routes as long as they are originating from the US or arriving in the US. You can also find the SIDs, STARS and airport diagrams at the site for free download or view. Here's an example of what it looks like.

I use flightaware occasionally, but I find that current flightplans on flightaware often contain navdata that is more current than the AIRAC cycles and charts available via Navigraph, that is why I use FSBuild.

Thanks for all your suggestions. So, there is no way to update the FSX navdata?I have read about FSBUILD, and I believe it is not compatible with PMDG 747-400X or FSX ATC?

It is compatible with all PMDG planes (even the earlier FLY!2 versions).Regards.Ernie.

No, there is not... or, at least not easily, since it would have to be done manually for tens of thousands of entries scattered among hundreds of files.Long before you got even 1/10th of the way through, your data would be obsolete... :(
