March 22, 201016 yr Hi all, first post so please bear with me if I come across as a bit Noobie. Have got the PMDG 737 600 - 900 and am trying to follow Fred Clausen's tutorial (and eventually Tim's too). However, I seem to have a problem starting the right engine. Here's what I do from a cold and dark c/p:1. Select Battery and standby2. Select ground power3. Flip the APU switch, wait for Gen Lights to turn blue, then flick both of them4. Flick the APU bleed5. Switch the other panels noted by Fred (e.g. fuel pumps, seat belts etc).THEN:1. Flick left engine to GRD. At this point the two small levers on the throttle are down (presume = closed?). Wait for engine to start makign a noise, then flick the small lever on the left up. Engine starts fine and is roaring away.2. Flick right engine switch to GRD. NOTHING! Not a sausage. Really sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don't know what I am doing wrong? I don't want to have to use Ctrl-E :-(

Hoprefully my name now appears at the bottom - thanks for the warning!
March 23, 201016 yr You need to turn your packs off for starting as well. http://www.b737.org.uk/images/normalchecklist.gif for a -300 but very similar. Also, though it isn't simulated in the NG (but hopefully will in NGX :)), you should wait for 25% N1 or max motoring before turning on the fuel cutoff valves (below the throttles). -Peter Allen
March 24, 201016 yr I had this happen to me last night...Double checked the bleed panel to find the isolation valve was not open... then everything cranked as normal...Checklists are your best friend...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
March 24, 201016 yr You know you should turn the generators on when the engines are running not before. Also, my NG's start perfectly with packs off, isolation valve auto and only with APU bleed air. Onur K. Visit my FS blog: Clear Right...
March 25, 201016 yr You know you should turn the generators on when the engines are running not before. Also, my NG's start perfectly with packs off, isolation valve auto and only with APU bleed air.I think he was talking about the APU GEN online, not the IDGs. Those GEN 1 & 2 switches won't do anything until the IDGs are ready, anyway. If you've got the PACKs OFF, the ISOLATION VALVE switch in AUTO, the ISOLATION VALVE would be in the OPEN position, so no problems starting there. I'd guess that most operators have the ISOLATION VALVE switch OPEN before start so the R PACK can get bleed air. Matt Cee
