Edit: Figured I'd put the link to the video here up top to find it easier than sifting through my babble.Ok, I had to share this with others that may not have seen it and more importantly see what others theories might be to some of the HUGE discrepancies here. Talk about Pilot error(s).Here are the biggest problems that jump out at ya.1.) The pilot supposedly thought he was landing at Atlantic City Int but instead landed here (not sure where this is actually).2.) He landed downwind in what you'll hear the camera guy say to be approx 10-15 knot winds.3.) To me this is the biggest error of all. He never shut the fuel cutoffs or power. I'm not a pilot but in my military days and as a frequent passenger in blackhawks and hueys we are always briefed on emergency shut down procedures "Should" we crash and be the lone survivor. The video will show the landing, crash and aftermath. Some things I'd like to get opinions (facts are welcome too of course :( ) on how the engine spooled up on its own after it was evacuated. My only guess is an electrical short. Of course since it was sinking I suppose a piece of drift wood could have gotten in and hit the throttle levers too haha. Amazing to see how long it runs. Should make pilots a little more confident and less nervous with flameouts due to a little rain :(Anywho, since we seem to have some very knowledgable peops here with a much better grasp of aircraft systems than any of the youtubers, I thought I'd post this here, so here's the video.Main questions I guess are:1.) Anyone know more about this? An article or accident report link would be super sweet.2.) How in the world was he cleared to land for that approach/RWY (downwind and the RWY was said to be too short)? All I can think of is it had to be an emergency landing or tower would have said, "ummmm what the hell are you doing pilot?" He also looks to be going very fast, but learjets are a little fast on landing, so I can't tell.3.) Ok not a question but if the pilot was unharmed and able he should of swam his sorry self out there if need be and shut the engine off. He had his chance when it spools up and was right next to it. It could have taken out allot of people.

The term motor-boating has a new meaning now. Ha.My guess is the much heavier water displaced the fuel in the tank and squeezed it into an engine with a hot core and it ignited. Yeah the fuel should have been blocked, but this is just the final link in a chain that started long before the landing.

He only had 360 hours in the aircraft with 2500 total, seems like too little to fly that aircraft. It was a Dutch Company aircraft though.

Sweet, thanks!Very interesting, and some very scary. In the video he looked like he landed within a couple hundred feet of the threshold, but perhaps I need another viewing. It also didn't seem like he was braking at all and no reversers (if it even has them, no idea). Thanks for the links!@ Dan D.That's a pretty cool theory. I knew real pilots were a better source to ask than Youtube :(

Funnily enough, the owner of this aircraft subsequently replaced it with a Citation Sovereign with the reg OY-WET! (There are a couple of photos on a.net)I like his sense of humour :)

This is what I found on www.oy-reg.dk OY-JETType Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign Construction number 680-0067 Year of manufacture 2006 Year of registration-cancellation Notes N5203S, (OY-JET), OY-WET Weibel Scientific A/S (http://www.oy-reg.dk/register/5416.html) The owner (as what I can find) makes Doppler radars and have branches in Denmark, Germany and USA (http://www.weibel.dk)

That is the replacement for the plane that crashed. It was registered OY-WET first,as a joke I presume.Pilot stuffed up,as the approach plate clearly said "jet aircraft not permitted"

I've seen this video before, as it is one of those really bizarre ones worthy of note. But regardless of the engine mystery, ultimately, the pilot seems to be a complete numb nuts if you ask me.Quite apart from the numerous transgressions before the landing when in the circuit, not to mention the unsuitability of the field for anything other than a well performed landing, to make an observation of the windsock and then completely disregard it is stupid beyond measure. I once had to make a landing on a grass field in-between two aircraft coming in downwind towards me after the pilots failed to correctly observe the windsock and came in the wrong way without announcing their approach, one of them even forgot to put his wheels down too and belly landed - and he was an instructor believe it or not. That aircraft was GRP incidentally; several pilots and people working on the airfield, including me, lifted it up, we dropped the gear on it to discover it had barely a scratch! Nevertheless, people like that are bloody dangerous and one usually finds they are only let loose in the skies because they own their own aircraft. Back with that jet mishap however, the approach is absolutely terrible from what you can make out on the video; it appears to be way too shallow and fast even for a private jet and you can tell that from the comments on the video too, where they are not really surprised when it all goes pear-shaped. The pilot apparently wasted almost 1,000 feet of runway on touchdown, severely shortening the available ground roll according to the investigation. With regard to the engine restarting, it looks like a ruptured fuel line or some such has caused fuel to pool up in the nacelle and perhaps ignite when in contact with an electrical spark from a short; there is a brief, but noticeable gout of flame from the rear as it spools up (the guys on the video comment on it). It is conceivable that the throttle linkage is broken (since the lever was apparently found to be damaged in the FAA investigation) possibly resulting in the cockpit thrust lever settings and cut off switches having no effect.Brings an entirely new meaning to the phrase 'jet wash'. But joking aside, the pilot is not fit to fly in my opinion, having demonstrated an appalling lack of ability to judge and comprehend situations. I assume that the fact nobody was killed is the only reason he still has a license, but if he continues to fly like that, I suspect that is not a state of affairs that will continue.Al
