Running FSX on a huge TV

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm thinking of replacing my 25 inch monitor with a 40 inch TV, maybe one of Samsung's new LED-TVs but question is if it's worth it. I realize it is up to each an every one to make that decision but would be great to hear if someone already using a similar setup for FSX and if so what you think about it?

I used LCD TV 42 inches LH70YR 1920x1080 resolution . It feel true size of cockpit environment such as yoke , door , fire extinguisher etc compare with your sight . Include runway width is fantastic . but not similar to 3 monitor in panoramic view.disadvantage1. too bright even if lower brightness setting2. True motion mode 120 Hz of this TV is hallucinated.3. You can sit more than 1 m apart .4. IF you want to set horizontal line ( sky line ) at same level of real life your panel is too low and not comfortable to look there. this problem solve with 2nd monitor for panel just cool but loss lower third area of 42 inches LCDif I can i will try with 3 x 42 inches TV if I can ....cheer

I use a DEll 2407 (24" inch Monitor) as my primary dispaly and a Samsung LE40B550 40" 1080P LCD TV as secondary display.I find FSX looks fantastic on the 40", especially for replays but I still use the DEll 2407 as a primary. One thing I noticed with the TV is some times the screen does not refresh qucikly enough, so if you are going to use a large TV for FSX make sure it has a good refresh rate.BUt my experience is good with a large TV. Also make sure to get a 1080p TV, which I imagine a LED tv would be. I would sure like to try FSX out on a LED.

See signature. 42" 1080P plasma. No brightness issues here. Plasma > LCD.

I often take my comp down to my home cinema room and connect it via HDMI to my 62" 1080P Plasma with 7.2 surround sound. Trust me, This is FSX at it's best

Thanks alot for your input guys, maybe I'll give the Samsung 8-series a try if I can only convince myself to spend that kind of money :(

Hi Avoid Plasma TV , It's too bright than LCD that lead to eyes strain but give more contrast . LCD TV price is lower day by day because rising of LED.

Plasma TVs are fine. If you have a plasma, use it in darker rooms as they reflect better in bright rooms which causes you to struggle to see the picture. I use my comp, PS3 and Bluray, DVD etc with my plasma in my home cinema and it's great. All this about brightness being too high is rubbish, mine is hardly bright and I never have sore eyes after long gaming periods. Just get whatever you can afford.

"it's too bright than LCD" what does this even mean? It's brighter than LCDs? No, generally not. Contrast ratios are higher because plasmas don't use a backlight which washes out black and grey tones. Plasma tvs can create real black tones, unlike LCDs. "LCD tv price is lower" - so? Since when is less cost a measure of performance? Never.Let me tell you something, I had a 42" 1080P LCD which broke after < a year and got it replaced under warranty by the retailer with a comparably-priced plasma of the same size and resolution. The moment I turned it on I was blown away by the difference in level of detail, particularly in dark scenes. Things that literally were not there before, now appeared. Plasma > LCD.

I second the above. I have 2x 42" LCDs in my lounge and bedroom, and the picture quality is better on the plasma than it is on the LCDs. Just buy known brands. My lcds are samsung and my plasma is pioneer. Get what you can afford.

OK guys...just got home and after digging deep into my wallet I ended up with a Samsung LED-TV (UE40B6050). Will report back once I've tried it later tonight.

Been enjoying my new LED TV the last couple of weeks but unfortunately I've experienced some problems with my TV where the touch controls don't always work etc and today Samsung came to replace some controller inside the TV but the problem is still there so I might be able to return the TV.Now I'm wondering, if I get the chance to return the TV how would the new Samsung 3D LED TVs where the TV is able to transform a normal picture into 3D work with FSX? The ads says this will work both when watching movies and TV but also when playing games. Anyone tried this yet or have a clue how it would work with FSX? I can only imagine how cool it would be...first having this HUGE screen and then also in 3D and since the conversion to 3D is processed inside the TV I take it that means it wouldn't have any impact on the performance of FSX...?

I believe the 3D tvs only wok with 3d games, so the actual game needs to be compatible with 3D.
