SimCheck Airbus A300B4-200 worth the $$$?

Featured Replies

Hi, Has anyone tried SimCheck Airbus A300B4-200 ? Is it worth the money? I would like to get a good Airbus sim. Waiting for the A320 to come out.Greg
I've had it for a couple of weeks and am enjoying it a lot. Most systems are modeled, and the plane handles nicely...of course, I've no idea what a real one feels like! But be aware, it's a steam-gauged retro jet with an INS instead of a full-blown FMC. Regardless, Simcheck did a great job on this, their first major product, and the support is top-rate; they're working on another patch to improve it even further. The only complaints that I've seen on the forums is that the documentation could be a bit more thorough, the flight engineer's panel should be 3-D, and a couple of very minor niggles beyond those. I think it's worth the price and have been flying it for one of my VAs.

you'll be waiting for a while if you want a realistically modeled one. aerosoft's release is of a simplified version.

to me that's part of the charm, it's like a half modern half old school aircraft. there aren't too many realistically modeled steam gauge jets for flight simulator.

I have had it for about three weeks, and love it! The soundset is one of the best-- including anything from PMDG. The graphics aren't the best to be honest, and according to the developer is on purpose to enable good frame rates. The interior virtual cockpit lighting has caused some grumbles by other owners, but I don't find it all too bad. The developer is rumored to be working on that. All in all, it has been very enjoyable, and the INS system isn't as difficult to use as you may think. Hand flying is a pleasure for sure!

I spent a lot of time looking at it, since I did the AVSIM review of it (which I recommend you read, to give you an idea of what it features). It's well modeled, good on frame rates, has good sounds (the sounds are by TSS but they can be improved slightly by purchasing the payware TSS GE A300 soundset (which I did), that sound set is slightly more comprehensive than the TSS sounds which come with it by default). It has really great documentation (some people might disagree with that assertion, but I thought it was excellent). As far as systems modeling goes, it is very complete. Not absolutely every switch and fuse is operable, but the vast majority of it is, certainly more than enough to keep hardcore simmers happy, so you can fly it realistically, and when you do, you find it has an excellent flight model too.The really impressive thing about it overall, is that SimCheck have thought very carefully about what to include and what to leave out, and as a result, it has more than enough to please realism fans, but it still runs at an impressive rate in FSX, since it is not bogged down with FPS-hogging eye candy that you'd only ever try once (i.e the pilot's seats don't move, stuff like that). In other words, a very intelligent bit of simulation. So yes, it is worth the money.Al

I agree that the simcheck is worthwhile... I also wanted to point out the astuteness of this observation alan. After so many years of being an MSFS fan (20+ at this stage), I've concluded that the addon market (which is arguably a decade old) for high-fidelity aircraft/airliner sims is sometimes confused. I think of all the addons which have detailed cabins and seats, or even flight attendants, what are somewhat ruined by these features... To me, what matters is what is going on in the front office. I actually like it when the cargo doors open and all of that, as it pertains to suspending my disbelief that I, as Captain of that flight, am making things happen. However, once I'm in flight/under way, the cockpit door is locked and the cabin is something I push buttons to create chiming notifications to crew and passengers alike - frames/vertices/triangles wasted on rendering anything aft of the cabin door has always felt like a performance-robbing waste to me.Therefore, I'm totally in favor of those who optimize and save performance for the parts that really matter... Just my humble opinion...

couldn't agree more. same here though I do not own the Simcheck, first comes the NGX and then possibly the Aerosoft Airbus - though probably in reverse order.

I just wish it had an FMC. I like to fly older airplanes as they are flown today. Not really into the retro stuffMy wish is for the Ready for Pushback classic 747 to be re-released for FSX, but with digital tape gauges, and an FMC
