GEX or UTX?

Featured Replies

Strange, I've been running UTX since day 1 on a Quad core 2.4GHz system and that give a slight performance hit and I have most everything turned on. I just overclocked to 3.2GHz and FSX runs smooth as liquid...
Agree, have both GEX Europe and UTX Europe. Superb combination.i7 920 overclocked to 4GHz... I have noticed zero impact on performance.

does UTX also greatly improve the zoning of cities and towns? i am always quite annoyed flying into what should be a big city only to find green fields and an airport in the middle of nowhere with no urban landscape to be seen.

If that bothers you, UTX is what you need. However, it is only a small part of what UTX does.

Does UTX Europe have the same problem that Horizon VFR scenery has in that it covers the map with water?

...whereas for me GEX doesn't really look as realistic for typical British countryside as I thought it would.
That really could be a landclass issue, which GEX also is not, thus not necessarily GEX 'problem'. For England (and the US/Canada), and many other locations in Europe, I prefer Cloud9's landclass, but also use SceneryTech's landclass as well in other areas. If layered correctly, you can switch each on and off on the fly, or even turn both off to see what UT offers, as it is also above the default.I've always liked the GEX products over the years, but to be honest, I think the current textures are a but overly 'sharpened' or exaggerated. Compared to the textures in FTX PNW or Tongass Fjords, as example, they don't really 'look right'. That said, I still believe they are a big improvement over the default textures overall, but I would prefer if they were 'toned down' a bit, or 'softened'.As others have said, UTX IMO is a must have, does something completely different, and I won't fly in a region without it. I've been flying with it from 'day 1' after installing FSX (over three years ago now I think), so don't even know what 'frame rate hit' it actually has, as I base everything with it installed by default.
