Panning Using Mouse, Hat switch, TrackIr etc.

Featured Replies

I've been using the mouse to pan in VC and I'm so impressed with how smooth the panning is.My questions are:1) How can I eliminate the T on the screen while using the mouse to pan?2) If I buy TrackIr 5, can I expect the same smooth panning that I get with the mouse?3) Finally, why is it that the hat switch does not pan smoothly, like the mouse? Is there a way to make panning smooth with the hat switch? Thanks.Jose

Track IR will pan as smoothly as your FPS are... ie 60 fps will yield 60fps of smooth panning... 15 fps, well, is what I'm used to in big cities - a little more choppy but I still find it realistic.Be advised TIR 5 has a dead zone if you look up and to the left... where it loses your clip for a while, and it's a pain for military aircraft if you're on left base or something...

answers:1) have you tried hide info text? [Main] HideInfoText=12) yes, but make sure you dont have any light sources or sunny windows near or behind you3) there is a adjustment you can make in FSX where you assign keys. The hat switch has a slider to adjust, set it for max if not already. Even with that it still wont be as smooth as the mouse pan or Trackir.

If you haven't tried it, what I do is quickly look down right and hit the center button (F12). When I return my head to center, the 'view' is above left. I have the buttons mapped to a rocker switch on the yoke - it's an almost instantaneous change.Vic

HideInfoText=1That did not remove the T courser created by the mouse.I just don't understand why the mouse is so smooth, yet the hat switch slows down with a decrease in fps. It's no where as smooth as the mouse.Which is the best TrackIr configuration? What are you using? Hat? Headset? etc. Thanks again!

TIR 5 w/ headset using Track Clip Pro.Make sure you don't have a lot of light behind your office chair though... otherwise the IR sensors will pick up on it.And yeah I know about re-centering but it's still annoying that it won't see upper left, and it will upper right. So I try more right hand patterns with jets like Lotus' beautiful L39 or default F18

Er... you didn't place the TrackIR device at the middle of the monitor, did you...? (Does NaturalPoint still advice to do so? If so, shame on them! :( ) I have my Clip at the left of my headphone, so I also placed the TrackIR device at the left of my monitor: this way you won't have a deadzone at the left where the TrackIR device loses contact with the Clip.Since a picture tells a thousand words...:15gcgb8.jpg

It's on the left.... still get the deadzone. I'm sitting just a bit below the receiver. I can't sit any higher due to my KB tray and I can't lower the receiver unit. While we're on the TIR topic - does anyone know how to stop the cord on the clip and the cord from my headset from tangling? I lose distance from the USB plug to the headset because my dang cords get all spiraled together! Maybe cable ties??

Maybe you've got to tape the device to the side of the monitor or any other position that will prevent a deadzone...? It doesn't really have to be attached to the monitor. ;)About the tangling: I know what you mean!!! However, since I make sure I lay down my headphone in the same position it was when I took it up (I put it on with two hands and take it off with two hands and never turn the headphone in any way), I never had problems anymore. When you pick up and lay down the headphone without thinking about it, you will probably turn it around too often and after a while the cords get tangled... Sounds simple, but well... it is! ;)
  • 6 months later...

I hate digging up old posts but I'm still having issues with my headset wires and track clip pro wires tangling into a horrible mess. The last few months I used velcro to tie the wires together, every 1 ft or so. It worked for about one week. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to place my headset on the wall the exact way it came off everytime... seems a bit of a hassle to be honest. Anyone tried cable ties? That's more of a permanent solution and those can be fun to get off! Either way, until I figure out a quality solution I will not be using my TIR5. I spent about 30 min untangling the wires this time argh :( A wireless TCP or wireless headset might work... someday perhaps.

With advent of EZCA I don't feel the need to use TrackIR anymore. I find that with EZCA cameras plus the hat switch (which I find to be smooth enough) I can do without TrackIR - I was never a great fan, found it hard on the eyes and could only use it at night or with all the curtains closed in daytime due to background light hassles.
