Bp=0 sticky query

Featured Replies

I have just started to read the sticky on the bp=0 tweak and I have got as far as the disclaimers. Here it implies that if a multi monitor setup is a must then I can stop reading there. Well for me it is (and has been for the past ten years at least - can't live without it). So is that it - the bp=0 tweak is not for multi monitor users and I needn't bother reading any further?Bruceb

Do the following, 'try' with your multimonitor setup.. and IF you get instability, simply try this alternate mode INSTEAD of UsePools=0:[bufferPools]RejectThreshold=98304 // Vertex data at or over 96KB does not get pooled and bypasses the bufferpool

Thanks for the feedback, slightly academic for me at present as I don't have an FSX capable PC but will look at this further when I get my new FSX PC - hopefully next week. In anticipation I have been trying to get up to speed on the latest setup recommendations.Bruceb

I was scared to use the BP=0 after reading the thread on it. I think I'll try the above and see what happens.Oh, and if you are getting a new computer Bruce, I'd suggest getting Windows 7 64 along with it. Admittedly, I have no scientific basis to back up my claims, but in my experience, I'm getting much better performance in FSX with it vs. XP/Vista. Your mileage may very, but it really is a much better OS then Vista.I run a Q9550 quad core, overclocked to 3.6 ghz, with 4 gigs of 800mhz ram ran in dual channel. I can fly into KORD with full AI traffic, UTX, GEX, REX v2.0, and FSdreamteams KORD scenery (extremely detailed) with 18-25 FPS (18-20 looking at the terminal, which is still very flyable).I never could do that under Vista or XP with the same hardware setup. I'd certainly go for one of the new I7 processors though over the old Core 2 Duo's (which the Q9550 is part of). Getting a fast processor, memory, and Windows 7 64 is the easy part though. Be very careful picking a video card. From what I've heard, some of Nvidia's newest cards (GTX285 is maybe what it's called?) do not play well with FSX because of the way they are designed. To the point where they'll get worse performance then much older cards. Spend as much time possible researching and making sure you get the best bang for your buck. More expensive is not always better in FSX.I use a Nvidia GTX 260 Core 216 but that card is a few years old at this point.

Not sure where you got that from, but the GTX 275/285, and the newest 470/480 are all great cards for FSX with ZERO performance issues.

I agree. The GTX 285 is a good card for FSX, but if you plan on using the BP=0 tweak/crack, stay away and buy the gtx 480.That said, all your components, drivers, win 7, and tweaks will have to be examined with a microscope if you want great performance with the latest payware sceneries and airplanes.If you just want stock FSX + Acceleration, then you shouldn't have to tweak with the latest hardware.

People please, this thread was about the BP=0 tweak with a multi monitor setup. :( Brucewtb, I did the tweak on my 3monitor setup without problems and I had a gain in fps.

Athlon3700+@3ghz, 6600GT, RadeonX700pro, 2G RAM, Win7, FSX, 1 x LG1680-1050, 2 x Philips1024-768

What I want: I7-930, X58, 3 x 1920-1080 with 3D spacegoggles, NO TH2G, NO Eyefinity, NO Sli, NO Crossfire

Thanks guys. For the record I'm getting an i7 960, win 7 64 and using my old 9800GT (factory OC) until the dust settles a bit rwt the 470/480 cards, but if any others have experience using the bp=0 with multi monitor setups I would be interested in the feedback. It just seems to me that even with the very latest overclocked hardware you can have complex scenery (eg orbx's YBBN, PNW) or complex aircraft (eg PMDG 747, F1 Mustang) but not both and this is unlikely to change significantly any time soon. So I'm looking for any software tweaks that might help.Bruceb
