EZDOK Camera?

Featured Replies

I have been pondering buying the EZDOK camera system but am holding off getting it due to a few concerns with it. I may re-consider it later after hearing your remarks. First of all I read ALOT of complaints about the manual and its ease or lack of use. It seems like from what I have read that there is alot of setup needed at first and I dont want the inability of the manual to explain things to ruin it for me. I also dont want to spend endless hours searching forums to get answers that should be easily found in a manual. So mu firat question is how true are my statements? Second, and this is my MAIN question about the product is, with all the shake-rattle-roll, how does that effect the ability to select settings in a aircraft while flying? I spend 90% of my flying time flying commercial liners so I spend alot of time setting this and setting that or dialing this and dialing that. I have seen a few youtube vids showing the camera in action and although it does seem to add a extra touch of realism to the sim it also looks like I would end up just getting ###### while trying to select items. So all that being said, what do you guys think? Thanks, Jim

Hello There is no going back once you have used Ezdok, even more so in conjuction with TrackIr.I found the setup quite easy, in fact I have not read the manual yet just scanned through theEzdok forum for tips on using it.

Buy it, you won't regret it.

The first 15 minutes can be a bit confusing, but after that it's really easy. If you read my tips here there is a change that even the first 15 minutes won't be a problem at all. :( About the motion effects and setting up things in the VC: you can make views WITHOUT any motion effects for this: all my pilot and passenger views use motion effects, but the zoomed in view of the GPS (in the Bonanza) is as steady as a rock. You can also momentarily disable EZdok by pressing NUMPAD-3, in case the effects make it impossible to turn a knob or whatever. You could even make 2 versions of each view: one with and one without the motion effects. Every view needs a shortcut however to switch to it (unless you like to fly in windowed mode and have the EZdok window opened also) so if you make too many views, you might run out of shortcuts.Don't forget that Flight1 has a great money-back guarantee: you can simply try the program and return it without any problems if you don't like it.

I agree with Jeroen. I usually hit the 3 on the numpad to make changes in the aircraft settings. That's one of the issues I have with FSX in that, in real life, even if the aircraft is bouncing all over the place, when you put your fingers on a switch or knob to change it, you can. It's very difficult to do this in FSX. It would be nice to have motions stop when you run your cursor over a knob or switch or have the cursor lock onto that switch until you made the change, but I assume that would take a lot of programming or impossible. Maybe in 2035...Best regards,Jim

There are one or two things I'm not quite so keen on in EZDOK (notably the interface, which I think could be improved by having explanatory pop up tool tips), but frankly this is a very minor gripe compared to its many plus points. There aren't many FSX add-ons I would say are a 'must have', but if I had to name two, FSFK would be one and EZDOK would be the other. As people have said, initially it can be a bit puzzling for a few minutes, but if you can figure out how to fly an plane in FS, then you can certainly suss EZDOK out. Yes you do have to set it up, but the manual explains how to do that perfectly well and it takes about 2 minutes, and in fact there is a youtube video that explains it too, so you don't even have to read the manual at all if you don't want to.If you like realistic cockpit movement feedback from ground roll and turbulence, or taking screenshots from interesting angles, then you won't be sorry if you get EZDOK.Al

I got one thing to say about it......COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I love it! I do have Trackir but cant use it as much as I would like to due to the location of my computer in the house so I really like how much it smoothes out the hat switch panning. With EzDok it is smooth as glass. Now on to tweeking it to perfection.

Glad to see you've taken it up!Have fun, and don't forget about the ability to take killer screenshots with the external camera.
