Unable To Install Flight Simulator X: Deluxe Edition

Featured Replies

Hey guys,I have been searching for hours on end looking for a solution to this problem. But I have found NOTHING. >,< I've talked to Microsoft, but they haven't even been able to fix it. I've come to the conclusion that re-formatting my hard-drive(s) is the only option. But I thought I would see if any one else has had the same problem and resolved it. I will try and provide as much information as I can. =) Thanks.A while back ago I uninstalled Flight Sim for some reason that I don't remember (This has been awhile ago, maybe 9-10 months ago), and I tried to reinstall it. But I've been receiving a message that says "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. F:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi". And I've gone through probably EVERY single Google search result and I've found absolutey NOTHING. >,<I'll give you a step-by-step explanation of what I'm doing and what happens. I'll try to include pictures and maybe a video so you can see what's happening in real-time.First, I put the first DVD into one of my two DVD drives. (One is LightScribe and the other is not). I don't know the exact manufacturers or models, but I can get those if you absolutely need it.<OVERSIZE IMAGE REMOVED BY MOD>It starts loading and everything...Loading.jpgAnd then this message comes up...Error.jpg

And that is as far as it gets. =(The DVD is in fair condition, a few scratches here-and-there, but other than that it's fine.Thank you soooo much you guys. I do hope I can get this fixed. I really want to fly! =D

Hmmm sounds like a corrupt disc.Have you tried it in another system?

Your DVD is not in fair condition if the installer can't open or find the msi file. "a few scratches here-and-there" will kill a DVD. It's either damaged (scratches, heat damage, finger prints, etc.,) or otherwise marked to the degree that the installer doesn't recognize it. Is this a copy of the original DVD? Does this happen if you put it in the other DVD drive too?

Yes, you need to clean the DVD. If that doesn't work, then you can contact Microsoft and they should furnish you with a replacement disk.Best regards,Jim

Yes, I have tried it in another system and it works as it should. =/And yes, it is an original copy.

Did you you try it in your second DVD drive?I used to buy LG drives - they're pretty cheap, but I found I was having too many issues - like the one you've got here. I seemed to go through one every 4 months or so. They just didn't last, so I scoured the CD/DVD geek forums and the main hint I got (at that time - some four - maybe five years ago) - was that the Sony DRU820A (I think) was a pretty good drive: Well, the LG's were costing me anywhere between $30 & $60 each and the Sony cost me $140 at that time. I havta say I have had zero issues with it. Nada. I would buy one again in a shot. If your DVD works in someone else's machine, and you've done all the driver reloading, cleaning and so-on - then maybe a new DVD drive is called for?

I don't have the link handy but there is a tool by MS that repairs the installer files - google microsoft installer repair - run that and see if that helps.Vic

If it works on another system perhaps the optics in your disk drive is contaminated with dust. Perhaps a cleaning CD will do it?

I will try this too.

Here is a video of it happening Idk if it'll help or not. =)

Create a folder on the desktop and drag the contents of the dvd to that folder - then try installing - has worked for many.Otherwise, this Microsoft support refers to Office, but will work here too: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 a link to the MSI repair tool.
