June 30, 201015 yr I have a question regarding the Cessna 172 Skyhawk for FSX. I'm always flying in the 2D-cockpit, but unfortunately the main panel is a bit too large to be able to see the runway. So, I've tried moving the panel to the bottom of the screen to get a view of the runway. Now this works, except that a black gap appears on the left side of the screen. I've also tried resizing the default view in the panel.cfg, but I just can't get it right. I have attached a screenshot of the main panel with this post. In this screenshot I have moved the main panel to the bottom of the screen. I have drawn a red circle around the black gap. Is there any way to get a good view of the runway in the 2D-cockpit without getting the black gap? I also own the Cessna 182Q and 182RG, and I don't have any viewing problems with the 2D-cockpit in those airplanes. I just don't understand why Carenado didn't make the Cessna 172 2D-cockpit in the same way as with the Cessna 182Q and 182RG.Jon
July 1, 201015 yr Just grab the bottom edge of the runway scenery and pull it down with the mouse. If you want to make it permanent, increase the Size_Y value in the panel.cfg file[Default View]X=0Y=0SIZE_X=XXXXSIZE_Y=YYYY Bert
July 1, 201015 yr Author Already tried all of that. It doesn't work. Because if you pull down the bottom of the runway scenery, the runway also moves down, and it becomes blocked again by the 2D-panel.Also already tried adjusting size_y value in the panel.cfg. Unfortunateley I couldn't find a value that works. The runway is still blocked by the 2D-panel.Jon
July 5, 201015 yr in 2D panel - Press and hold SHIFT key whilst pressing either ENTER or BACKSPACE will raise or lower the view, without doing anything else to the panel.Gary
July 6, 201015 yr Author without doing anything else to the panel. But that's exactly the problem. The panel must be moved down to be able to see the runway. But as soon as you move the panel to the bottom of the screen, the black gap appears as you can see in the screenshot. Moving the eyepoint up and down is sadly not the solution to the problem, because there is not enough room above the panel to be able to see anything. The "problem" is just the way the panel is designed. Take a look at the 2D-panel from the Cessna 182Q and 182RG, and you will see the difference in design.Jon

The panels have been out for quite a while without compaints of the 172 2d panel. Thanks.RayM When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
July 8, 201015 yr From what I understand you've modded the panel config, so maybe you can try going back to the original settings. Then you appear to have no black gap but you can't see the runway - if I understand the problem right? Then in 2D panel - Press and hold SHIFT key whilst pressing either ENTER or BACKSPACE and this will raise or lower the outside view, without doing anything else to the panel.Do not pull the panel up or down, just use the keystrokes above, then you get the full panel and the outside view.Gary
July 10, 201015 yr Author Jon, how about you posting the comparison screenshots of the 3 Cessnas you have and maybe we can grasp the problem a little better. The panels have been out for quite a while without compaints of the 172 2d panel. Thanks.RayMOk, I have posted the 2D panels of the different Cessna's with this post. On top you can see the Cessna 182Q and Cessna 182RG 2D panel, and on the bottom the Cessna 172 2D panel. I hope that the viewing problem that I'm having in the 2D cockpit is clear now (the runway/taxiway cannot be seen).@ggi: moving the eyepoint up or down does not solve the problem. As you can see in the screenshot, there is not enough room between the top of the 2D panel and the top of the screen. So moving the runway up that high by moving the eyepoint, looks very odd and small. If Carenado could make me a Cessna 172 2D panel that looks like the 2D panel in the Cessna 182Q/Cessna 182RG, I'd be more than happy to pay the extra cost. Because right now, the airplane is unuseable.Jon
July 11, 201015 yr I'm seeing the exact same thing as you are, Kingcat, and the Shift + Enter stuff doesn't work in the 2D panel. My question to you is why do you only fly in the 2D panel? The VC has the better view even if you never move it around. You can zoom in or out and set it where you like it. You can pretend it's 2D, and it'll work fine. To call the aircraft "unusable" because of that is quite unfair to Carenado. It's a brilliant piece of work. Here is what my VC looks like when I start the sim with Here is how I like to sit enroute: One could easily pan the closer shot down just a bit to see all the controls, click off the yoke and have a usable "2D" panel. Like this:
July 11, 201015 yr Author I think I've made my point, and you can clearly see the difference between the Cessna 172 and 182 when it comes to the 2D-panel. I don't like to fly in the VC (I never have, and I never will). One person likes to fly in the 2D cockpit, and another one likes to fly in the VC. It's just personal taste. You cannot "force" someone to jump through hoops and adjust things in the VC cockpit, to make it look like the 2D cockpit. Sorry, that doesn't work for me.I expect a decent 2D cockpit (just like the ones in the 182). The current one in the 172 takes up to much space, and therefore the airplane is unuseable to me. The design of the 2D panel should have been the same as in the 182.Jon
