Boeing 727..

Featured Replies

Hi, just curious about the prezzurisation of the 727. The staircase under the tail section, is it the door on top of the stairs that holds the prezzure or is it the staircase itself? In my CS 727 the door opens inside, so i would think that would be most likely if the Captain sim model is right, but not sure, and cant find info about it either. Thanks

As Mike notes, the door itself is the pressure seal. It's actually apparent if you look at the door on the interior of the CS Boeing 727's cabin, which shows it is a fairly sturdy affair and it has only a very tiny circular window, although the door frame itself is not completely accurately depicted in the CS 727, which is rather more obviously sturdy when you see it in real life, with some seriously hefty retaining locks. There are several sliding lugs along the door's edge too, which shift over when the main lock handle is operated in a manner similar to a bank vault door. These can be seen on the edge of the door on the CS model.Like other aircraft doors, when closed, the pressure in the cabin also serves to hold it in place by virtue of the fact that it closes against a narrower aperture. These days its a bit of a moot point anyway. Ever since Dan Cooper used those rear airstairs as a means to bail out after having hijacked a Boeing 727, the exits have generally been deactivated on most 727 and the more normal exits used, since air-bridges are now far more common at airports than they were in the 727's heyday.Al

Thats the reason i wondered, it didnt look like a pressure door like the side doors. But thanks, very nice info. The hijacker, was he ever found? I heard storys about him getting caught many years later, that he drowned in the water he fell in, and that he is still living somwhere. The story i watched on tv many years ago says he dissapered and some people claimed to have seen him somwhere walking around as a free man years later.

Maybe the most obvious is that some animal had him for lunch or something, but the myth lives. Thats cool i think:)

Noone knows what happened to DB Cooper. No body has been found, little or no money has turned up anywhere either.

Some of the money or just some money? Is it really possible to track money all the way back from 1971??

I wouldn't be surprised given that the US government puts serial numbers on each bill.

I guess yur right, it just seems so far back in time. No complex computer network, more time consuming to investigate and all that.Speaking of Cooper, i found this:)http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/crimina...cams/DB_Cooper/

Hence why I said little. I remember hearing something about that too, and it wasn't that much out of the original $200,000 ransom. $5800 isn't that much when ya think about it. That money was found in 1980. I don't think anyone will ever find out what happened to him.

Yeah they found some of the money on the banks of the Columbia River. The serial numbers were traced back to DB Coopers money. They believe it was in the water and that it was brought to shore when the dredged the river from the silt build up. They are not sure where the money first entered the water though.

I would call it a little more than a few years. I doubt they would find out anything unless they really put in som monet and effort. But yu never know for sure.
