Why does Carenado leave problems unfixed?

Featured Replies

I own a fair number of Carenado products and like them a lot, except for the factthat Carenado leaves them with unfixed bugs and goes on to the next product.I have reported bugs that should be easy to fix, and get told that they are "on theto-do list", but in reality, they never get addressed. The Mooney has a trim indicator that operates backwards, the Seneca has a malfunctioningannunciator, the Bonanza has several bugs and so on.. and now the Carenado team isworking on releasing the Caravan.Other vendors such as RealAir, Flight1, and PMDG fix all bugs as a matter of course (and pride).Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get Carenado to pay attention to their loyal customersand follow through on their stated "to-do list", or am I pushing a rope? :(

I was actually just coming on here to see what the status of the Bonanza SP2/3 was. The cowl flaps lever moving in the opposite direction of the way you drag the mouse has been an error present in most of their recent addons, yet it has never been fixed. It really would be nice to see Carenado fix these problems, especially considering many of us have offered to beta test the products several times, myself included.

Ah, at last someone else who questions Carenado's support! I was beginning to think I was the only one who had problems with that! Due to the lack of support (they never reply to any of my questions at all) and their 'let's-release-a-beta-and-see-what-happens' I decided to stay away from Carenado until they change their way or working. I do like the Bonanza a lot (I own 3 Carenado planes) but it's very annoying they leave things unfixed and you have to 'repair' stuff yourself (as far as possible) by editing xml files.Imho Carenado's support is the worst. Some people will react to this by saying they do release numerous patches, but all those patches shouldn't have been needed in the first place and a lot of those patches have to do with the flight model (that was the fact for the Bonanza and the C185F) which makes it seem they don't look at that at ALL, while that should be the first thing to look at it imho. Apart from that: the flight model more often gets corrected by customers than by Carenado. It seems Carenado is only interested in releasing as much models as possible (often using the same gauges over and over on a lot of planes) and make quick money.I'll better stop typing now: I totally had it with Carenado. Still, the Bonanza is my default plane, so... :(

Well, I got annoyed enough at the Mooney panel, that I went in and edited the bitmap. It is not like in the real plane, but at least it is no longer backwards.. :(

I agree with Carenado not fixing bugs in aicrafts, but I will say something posative about them.Last year I bought the Piper Arrow IV from JustFlight and I went to fly it and it didn't have a 2D panel, so I contacted Carenado and asked why and they said it didn't have one. I got offered a refund or another aircraft, I picked an aircraft - what other companies would do that, for the simmers fault? my friends, thats customer support.

Not to put too fine a point on it... I actually question Carenado's commitmentto follow through on promises made..I did get a reply from Carenado support on the issues I raised, and was told that they were on a "to-do" list. A reasonable expectation might be that this would lead to a fix down the road.. but mypatience is wearing thin, hence this post. The darn thing is, that I really like the Carenado planes and fly them often. I even do notmind fixing little things that are within my control, but opening a gau file to make a smallchange is simply not possible, except by the author of the gauge.

Point taken. :(

I actually wonder why they asked for a forum on Avsim at all. I have yet to see some kind of interaction between them and their customers here. They only seem to come here to post screenshots of upcoming products.VERY disappointing :(

KInd regards

I own a fair number of Microsoft products and like them a lot except for the fact that Microsoft leaves them with unfixed bugs and goes on to the next product.I could rewrite your post for every car I own, every appliance in my house, every bit of software I've ever purchased. My point is, Carenado makes great products, but no product ever will be perfect. Release a perfect product, put up a forum, and you'll have people nitpicking it. Life is too short not to enjoy the fabulous work released by Carenado, Ford, LG, Dell, Nvidia, Bosch, etc. :(

I understand what you are getting at (their will always be bugs etc.), but imho you are comparing apples with oranges. You have to compare Carenado to RealAir or Orbx or PMDG and other companies that create FSX-addons. And when you compare Carenado's support (or their "commitment to follow through on promises made" :( ) to RealAir or Orbx or PMDG, there is only one answer possible. And it isn't positive towards Carenado. As Jean-Paul says, I also wonder why they have this forum... I don't think they use the forum as Avsim intended (Carenado is just promoting their stuff and leave customers out in the cold). Avsim might as wel reconsider having Carenado on here.EDIT:About not using this forum as intended: the information on the main forum page seems to indicate this is the official Carenado forum:"The Carenado Support forum is a place where you can obtain support for Carenado’s products from other users as well as directly from Carenado. The forum is also a good place to share questions, answers, tips and suggestions relating to Carenado’s products."This in contrary to other forums like for instance:"The UNOFFICIAL Captain Sim Support ForumThis forum is an unofficial support forum for Captain Sim products. Any support provided here will be from your fellow flight sim product owners and most likely not from Captain Sim themselves."Add to that the fact that 'Carenado' is the mod of the forum, this makes it all look that this is indeed the official Carenado support forum. However, I just had a look at the Carenado site and there is NO reference at ALL to this forum: no link, no nothing. I couldn't find it. PMDG, which IS an official forum, does have a link to their forum over here. So it seems that this is NOT the official forum after all: they just use it to post previews and stuff. So maybe Avsim could rename the forum to 'unofficial' and remove the part saying 'as well as directly from Carenado'. :( Or maybe simply use the Captain Sim blurb because that description fits this forum perfectly well (if you change the names, obviously).P.S. In case you wonder why I seem to bother so much: I am totally bored and have nothing better to do. B) And I do like the Bonanza and can't stand it doesn't get fixed.

Nice post, but there is a difference between acknowledged bugs in gauges, that subsequently do not get fixed, and nitpicking...If Ford released a car that had the fuel gauge wired backwards, it would get fixed in a recall. There is a well established standard in FSX addons that actual malfunctioningcomponents that are discovered after shipment get fixed in a patch.. and thatis the benchmark I hold Carenado to. Yes, we all have our "wishlists" and minor gripes - and I accept the notion that nothing is ever 100% :(

Bert

I second the lack of customer support (or even interaction in the forums)! I

But honestly, if it were just a few carenado-planes that had this sort of bugs and lack of care, it wouldn

I've been patiently waiting for just a basic patch for the Centurion in FSX SP2... There is only a MINOR model issue with the VC and the propeller transparency... Would take all of about 5 minutes to fix the alpha channel. Unfortunately the source files of the C210 sits unused on a developers hard drive...Just want a small patch... :(

Even though I have a hanger full of Carenado aircraft I only fly two of them, the 185 and the Bonanza. I like the 185 because J van E sent me a texture that removes the ugly tint from the windows, and the Bonanza because I asked Carenado to releae it with a clear window option, and they did. They have always written me back anytime I asked questions or made comments, so I like them as a company, even if their products can be quite buggy. However, having these numbers of complaints from good customers is huge, so if they are not very careful to turn their support performance around sooner rather than later, things will go awry for them very quickly. They should take their inspiration for customer service from a company like ORBX, not from developers like Ariane and Captain Sim. Once a reputation is lost, it can seldom be found again. When they read this thread I hope they react quickly and positively.Kind regards,Stephen
