FSX Flight Planner

Featured Replies

Is there a way to search for waypoints, VORs and intersections in FSX' flight planner? This thing seriously seems to be lacking. How about a utility that updates FSX NAV database? Also, what would you recommend for a third party planner? Doesn't have to be complicated just simple enough to create a plan and export it to .pln format?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The built-in flight planner does not have any of those features.Plan-G is a nice freeware flight planner. It uses the FSX nav database, so you won't have anything that's more up-to-date, but that also means it will work just fine with the default ATC.

Outstanding! I just checked their website and screenshots and it looks simple enough! Thanks for the recommendation! I just want to ask something I couldn't figure out from the site, is there an option to search for waypoints? :)

Yes.

Searching for waypoints is as simple as searching for airports - there's a popup dialogue with a search field. But why not download it and give it a try - you can't beat the price. I had a problem updating the service pack for some runtime library it required. It turns out that Vista already had it, and I botched my first attempt at installing it by trying to update it. So, if you have Vista or later don't bother.

Did my first flight created by it last night and everything went great. The interface is very intuitive and I like that you can add your own waypoints to the database, the ones that do not exist in FSX that is (which is a lot of them btw, surprise surprise)All in all this is a great little tool and I will be using it every time for planning now. Thank you for recommending it.

And don't forget the GPS database can be updated to a considerable extent using the download on the following site.http://www.btinternet.com/~gb.mitch/index.htmlThis has been recommended on a number of sim forums as a solution to the now severely out-of-date database in the FSX GPS.CheersBrian

Be aware however that even with this installed, the actual sim's visual data isn't changed at all...It's still like trying to navigate cross-country in the 1880's with a 2010 Rand MacNally atlas...
