Using the *map* feature of fsx . . .

Featured Replies

I would like to use the built in map feature of fsx but, without waiting for fsx to load just so I can click on map. Does anyone know if map can be ran as a stand alone program with out fsx running?I just want to check some frequencies or elevations without having to wait for fsx to load. Thanks.

I do not believe that is possible..........Consider using a free utility such as ADE9X (afcad on steroids) and just enter the airport code to check the airport's properties etc. It can run independently of FS.

Rather than use the map I would use either:FSCommanderorPlan-GFor what you want to do I find FSCommander the better option and it is shareware - limitations are that you cannot save flight plans and that it terminates after running for 30 minutes, other than that it is fully functional and superb (of course you could always buy the full version if you like it that much). Plan-G would also do the same job, although it is slower since it relies on Google's Maps - on the plus side that means that you can overlay nav data onto a normal map / terrain map / satellite imagery - Plan-G is freeware. Both are excellent - I have both on my machines and would hate to have to lose either !!!G

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I am not looking to add payware or replace the default atc at this time, what I am trying to do is see what fsx has for ILS frequencies, etc for specific airports. I see occassional differences in fsx and Skyvector or AirNav info, probably because of updated approach plates.I was just hoping to save some wait time. Thanks again.Ray
