September 19, 201015 yr I am running an i5 at 4Ghz in Windows 7 with a good 550 watt power supply (Cooler Master) and a Nvidia 275. What sort of improvements would be shown going to a 480. Thanks,RH
September 19, 201015 yr Robbie, You're going to see an increase in frames, not a lot but some. More importantly, you'll see a smoother sim. You will have to upgrade your PSU though. I think 650w is the minimum recommended PSU for the 480.
September 19, 201015 yr I had a 275 GTX and now have a 480 GTX. Information on 480 GTX specifications with other complimentary components here:ORBX FORUM THREADComparison with other video cards on same system here:AVSIM FORUM THREAD I hope that helps.Kind regards,
September 19, 201015 yr Hi Stephen, Not to hijack this thread, but I'd be curious to know what your bios settings are to get your 930 to 4.3. I can get mine to 4.0 stable, but that's as far as I can get. that's with a Vcore of 1.343.

It can run fine as high as 4.4 (210x21) on air, but I turn it down to 4.3 (206x21) since my Mushkin ram (just like yours I think) does not like to be OCed much above 1600mhz with cas 6 timings. The cooler keeps the temperatures low. I think if you up your core volts somewhat you will find safe and stable performance at those levels, but only if things remain cool.ORBX TECH FORUMSI hope this helps.Kind regards,

September 19, 201015 yr Author Wow! So much for the FSX is CPU bound theory. I appreciate the responses and links. The only problem I see is that my 550 power supply is not powerful to run a 480. How about a 470? Do you think it is powerful enough to run that?RH
September 19, 201015 yr I think It's just enough to run the GTX 470 which I have the box says minumum 550W power supply and it's tested with an i7. But that's not really being on the safeside. Especially since your OC'd to 4Ghz, Ithink it's better to get at least 700W
September 20, 201015 yr I upgraded from a gtx 260 to a gtx 480 and the difference was noticeable immediately. Faster load times, scenery refreshes quicker (especially after slewing), and I believe the 1.5 gb of RAM helps with texture loading capacity. Even though FSX is mostly CPU bound, I think the video card is still important and a old one can still bottleneck an otherwise top line system.I recently have added *******'s BP=0 tweaks to my cfg, and I think that alone is supposed to move more of the FSX processing away from the CPU to the Video Card, making it less CPU hungry.I'm a happy camper! The only gripe on my system, I cannot use the ENBseries Bloom mod. It causes FSX to CTD when I switch to windowed mode :Black Eye: A.J. Domingo

Get a dual fan model like the Gigabyte OC version. You will save a pile of cash going the 460 route also.jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
September 22, 201015 yr thanks for the info. I'm getting some price quotes today for the 480s.....and also a pair of 460s to compare.-feng
